CADOXTON 2 - 0 STANLEYTOWN
.
.
First game of the season Stanleytown were drawn away to Cadoxton. The team was looking to start the league in good form after a good pre season. The game kicked off and it was clear Stanleytown were not in for an easy day with all the pressure coming from the home side. The pressure soon started to take its tole and Cadoxton were awarded a penalty after 20 minutes when Garry Edwards brought down the opposition striker in the area. The same striker stepped up for the penalty and gave Cadoxton a 1-0 lead. The game started again and Stanleytown were again under pressure and looking to hang on until half time. The first half ended 1-0 to the home side. After some stern words on the side from the coaches Stanleytown took to the field again. However the team now started to show some signs of the football that they played during pre season. Some tidy football was trying to be played up field. However they still had plenty of defending to do. Cadoxton eventually got their second goal when a goalkick was taken short to the Stanleytown defender whose first touch deserted him and left the Cadoxton striker with a 1 vs 1 and calmly put the ball past Tom Lewis in goal, 2-0. The game continued with Stanleytown trying to create chances but being over run by Cadoxton, and despite a few half chances for the home team the final score was Cadoxton 2-0 Stanleytown.

Tom Lewis - 6
First keeper to ever have cramp. Did make a few excellent saves to keep his team in the game, still not over keen on crosses tho.
Carl Semmens - 5
Didn't do ok. Name and shame, friday night drinker.
Matthew Smith - 5
Held his hand up for the second goal (first touch like Dale Hughes) tried to play football. Friday night drinker
Garry Edwards - 4
Bit of a mare, conceded a penalty, got given the run around and asked to be taken off half time (managers pet hate)
Alex Thomas - 5
Doesn't seem too keen on this wing back role, struggled to get up and support the forwards.
John Williams - 5
Also struggled to get up and support the attack. Seen John have better days.
Dale Hughes - 5
Played holding role, came in to the game in second half. Been working on getting his yard of pace back over the summer... no comment.
Barrie Jones - 5
Went out on friday night and had skinful and it showed. Clearly not his usual self.... he had his boxing bandages on to play football.
Joe Eason - 6
Not Joe's best of games but was one of the better players of the day. Tried getting the ball on the deck and playing, I say tried..... another victim of friday night drinking.
Tyrone Jones - 5
Another friday night session victim, touch wasn't there today. Sleeping in the car on the way down wasn't a good sign.
Craig Williams - 6
Chased the ball down all game in the heat, but with little to feed on in front of goal he was always in for a hard game.
Adam Green - 6
Came on at full back then moved to centre midfield. Tried playing some nice passing football, just a shame his team mates weren't feeling it. Does have the acceleration of a 12 ton dumper mind.
Leon Semmens - 5
Friday night drinker. Came on upfront, chased some balls, went home.
Friday night drinking is no longer tolerated at the club and those who consume more than 3 or 4 pints will be punished accordingly!

MATCH REPORT TO FOLLOW
STANLEYTOWN 1 - 1 TONGWYNLAIS
John Williams
.
Our first home game of the season saw us welcome Tongwynlais, with several players away there were returns to the side for Huw Evans and Karl Williams and a debut for new signing Nathan Williams. With both sides losing their opening 2 games this was always going to be a tight affair, and this showed in the early stages with neither side taking control of the game.
It was Tongwynlais who had the first real chance when a cross from the right found the striker unmarked on the 6 yard line only for him to miss hit his shot which was easily saved. Soon after Stanleytown came close when Lee Bolderson struck the bar from a tight angle.
10 mins before the brake Tongwynlais took the lead when a deep corner to the far post was meet with a free header to power in the first goal. 5 mins later there was some nice play between Joe Eason and Garry Edwards down the right which resulted in a corner, Tyrone Jones drilled it in and it was only partly cleared by the Tongwynlais defence and the ball fell kindly to John Williams to fire home the equaliser. Half Time 1 – 1
The second half took a similar pattern to the first with neither side taking control and very few chances, Stanleytowns best chances of the half fell to Barrie Jones and Craig Williams, first Barrie came close with a header going just wide and then a volley from Frog from outside of the box going just over.
Tongwynlais themselves had a couple of chances, first going through one on one but firing wide and then a well placed shot from the edge of the box was pushed around the post by Tom Lewis in the Stanleytown goal. Final Score 1 – 1

Struggled in wing back role against a player who was cheating, forced off through injury

Usual workmanlike shift but little creativity this week

Tyrone Jones – 5
Little service today but still needs to be making more runs

PENRHIWCEIBER 3 - 2 STANLEYTOWN
Barrie Jones
Own Goal
.
Our Second mid week game saw Stanleytown travel over the mountain to Penrhiwceiber. With several players returning, Stanleytown were able to field a strong team. The match started positively with Stanleytown looking the stronger team and creating good chances, the best of which fell to Barrie Jones and Joe Eason. However neither were able to find the net and the score remained 0-0. It was Penrhiwceiber who in fact got the first goal when a corner was met by a free header at the front post and flew into the net to give the home team the lead. It wasn't long before the second goal came, and again it was the home team, this time firing in from close range, 2-0 Penrhiwceiber. After some half time words of wisdom from the coaching team Stanleytown started the second half looking a better team. This was soon confirmed when Barrie Jones found himself on the end of a cross to poke the ball home to pull one back for Stanleytown. The game was back competitive again, with both teams fighting for points. However in the last 10 minutes the game was seemingly sealed when a clearance from the Stanleytown number 1 was scuffed and fell to the Penrhiwceiber player, who was able to fire from distance to make it 3-1 Penrhiwceiber. However this was not the last action of the match as Stanleytown were able to claw another goal back in the last 2 minutes of play. Final score Penrhiwceiber 3-2 Stanleytown

Tom Lewis - 4
Moment of madness for the third goal, don't know what he was going for. Some dodgy moments in the first half as well. Footwork like Hollywood after 20 pints.
Craig Williams - 5
Looks comfortable at the back. Won plenty of headers. Needs to be attacking the ball in the box on free kicks instead of taking them.
Huw Evans - 5
Played with a dodgy knee, it backfired and now he's worse. Was playing more like a full back than a centre back at times, he'll be back.
Nathan Williams - 5
This boy will stick his head on just about anything. Put in a few solid chances and likes to play the ball out.
John Williams - 5
Says his playing days are behind him, don’t think he’s a fan of wing back, those little lungs struggle with the workload, not to mention the legs.
Garry Edwards - 5
If he asks to come off once more he's getting a 'take one for the team' off every player. Wore his opposing winger out with his pace (only trouble was he wore himself out in doing so)
Karl Williams - 6
Great to have back in the fold. Loves to get the ball down and play simple. Caught out once or twice. Lack of match fitness meant he was blowing early in the second half.
Lee Bolderson - 5
Another who tried to get the ball down and play. Looked good in phases. Was worried about how dirty his white base layer shorts were after the match
Barrie Jones - 6
Got another goal. Shows great energy all game to get up and down the field. Does need to stop shouting at his team mates and start encouraging.
Joe Eason - 6
Got kicked again but kept at it. Made several good runs with the ball and switched the ball beautifully a few times.
Tyrone Jones - 6
Put in one of his more energetic performances. The same next game please. Chased after balls, closed down balls and put some good set pieces into the box.
Matthew Smith - 5
Went on at wing back, suffering from the weekend, and it showed!
Carl Semmens - 5
Went on at centre half, suffering from the weekend, and it showed!
Adam Green - 5
Went on at centre midfield, suffering from the weekend, and it showed!
Alex Thomas - Unused sub
Went to football, got changed in to all his kit, when asked to go on he 'didn’t want to risk it'
STANLEYTOWN 1 - 3 PORTHCAWL
Joe Eason (p)
.
This week Stanleytown welcomed Division 1 team Porthcawl town in the first round of the Bruty cup. The teams met last year in the senior cup with Porthcawl coming out on top 7-1. The match kicked off with Stanleytown seemingly still in the changing room. Porthcawl were dominating all over the field and chances were starting the mount for the away team. After half hour of pressure Porthcawl finally got their rewards even if it involved a bit of luck, when the striker seemingly miss hit the ball, which found its way over Tom Lewis and nestled in the net to make it 1-0 to the away team. This seemed to bring Stanleytown to life and start to show a bit of fight. However it was Porthcawl who got the next goal when Stanleytown lost possession in their third of the field, the striker was left with an easy 1 on 1 to make it 2-0 Porthcawl. Stanleytown didn’t let this affect them and carried on taking it to Porthcawl town. And they got their reward when John Williams was clattered in the box, the referee had no potion but to point to the spot. Joe Eason put the penalty away with ease to claw one back for Stanleytown and make it 2-1 to the away team. This is how it stayed until half time. Stanleytown started the second half as they finished the first, showing fight and belief. Stanleytown were the only team who looked like scoring in the second half. They kept pushing for the equaliser but it never came. With Stanleytown chasing the game, Porthcawl hit them on the break in the last few minutes to seal the game for Porthcawl Town. Final score Stanleytown 1-3 Porthcawl Town.

Carl Semmens - 6
Done ok
Garry Edwards - 6
Needs to get forward more. Lucky to still be walking after the warm up.
Nathan Williams - 6
Grew in to the game in the second half, even with an injured knee. Good addition to the squad. Wont lose much in the air.
Matthew Smith - 6
Bit of a mare at centre half. Came to life when moved into midfield. Needs to start enjoying football again
Karl Williams - 6
Sat in front of the defence and filled in for full backs. Done what was asked of him. Got the ball down and played football.
Barrie Jones - 6
Another who sat deep and filled in for full backs. Shows his frustration on the field. Was chuffed when he won a tenner at the club, wasn’t so chuffed when he realised he had already lost a tenner.
Lee Bolderson - 6
Put his hand up for the mistake for the second goal. Worked back and got stuck in, Played the ball around nicely on the deck.
Joe Eason - 7
Took his penalty well. Played some lovely balls through and showed bags of skill taking on 2,3 or 4 players at a time.
John Williams - 6
Quiet game from John, Seemed lost. Did win the penalty tho.
Tyrone Jones - 7
Put in a good shift. Showed what he can do if he tries. This needs to be his effort levels every game. Did miss a 1 on 1, but made the chance himself out of nothing.
Adam Green - 6
Came on at full back, tried getting forward. Played some decent football with Joe.
Alex Thomas - 6
Came on at full back. Happy to defend, struggled to get into the pace of the game and get forward.
Jarrad Davies - 6
Came on the wing for the final 15 minutes. Not enough time to impact the game. Did put one or 2 balls in the box.
STANLEYTOWN 4 - 2 GRAIG Y RHACCA
Lee Bolderson 3 (1pen)
Barrie Jones
.
This week Stanleytown welcomed Graig Y Rhacca in the FAW cup. With a few players missing Stanleytown were still able to field a good team. However this wasn't reflected in the game with the away team dominating the early stages. And it was Graig Y Rhacca who got the first goal with the striker beating the offside trap and firing past the goalie to make it 0-1. This seemed to wake Stanleytown up a little and they started getting in to the game. It wasn't long before Stanleytown were level with a fine goal from Lee Bolderson. With Stanleytown now back in the game it wasn't long before they were in front when Barrie Jones headed the ball into the net from a corner kick, 2-1 to the home side. With both teams still in the game and battling hard, it was the home team who was next on the score sheet when Carl Semmens played the ball through to Lee Bolderson who showed a fine bit of footwork and fired the ball past the Graig Y Rhacca keeper to make it 3-1 Stanleytown. This is how the teams went in at half time. After some words of encouragement and the odd insult at half time, both teams took to the field for the second half. Graig Y Rhacca seemed to have been encouraged at half time and were battling hard, creating some decent chances. However the home defence seemed up to the task of keeping the opposition out. The game was finally killed off when the ball was played from deep by Carl Semmens over the top to Lee Bolderson, who was clattered by the opposition goalkeeper, there was only going to be one outcome. Penalty. Lee Bolderson stepped up and confidently put the penalty away to claim his hat-trick. However the away team wasn't done yet and continued to battle away and eventually got their reward with a goal late on. Final score, Stanleytown 4-2 Graig Y Rhacca.

Carl Semmens -5
Bit of a mare.
Nathan Williams - 7
Made some good headed clearances and not shy to get stuck in. Looks to have claimed his place at centre half with his cousin.
Craig Williams - 7
Didn't lose a header. Swept up all game. Even made a few breaks forward from the back. Can forget about going back up front.
Garry Edwards - 6
Lost his opponent on a few occasions and got back well to defend. Final ball could do with some work.
John Williams - 6
Got forward in to some good attacking positions. Not sure he is all that keen on wing back tho.
Adam Green - 6
Was having a good game until a silly challenge got him sent off. Calm on the ball, kept the ball on the deck. Just getting in the starting 11 and gets himself banned.
Karl Williams - 7
Quote from opposing striker, 'that old guy in the middle is awesome'. And he was. Showed great skill in the middle and worked hard till the end. Great to have him back in the squad (and little Shay)
Barrie Jones - 7
Another who worked tirelessly. Always a danger in the air off set pieces. Got another goal, and got stuck in all over the park.
Lee Bolderson - 7 STAR MAN
Great composure in front of goal. Got his hat-trick and was seen hogging the match ball in the changing room afterward. Showed good energy when moved to wing back late on. Always calm on the ball.
Tyrone Jones - 7
Worked his socks off upfront on his own and showed great skill on several occasions. Needs to get his confidence back and goals will come.
Jarrad Davies - 6
Doesn't care too much for all the pretty football. Kick, chase, tackle is his game. Put himself about and always puts in a shift.

Bit of a headless chicken. Not recovered from his knee injury and it showed. struggles to get in to the game.
Leon Semmens - 6
Came on up front. Chased back and tackled well late on. Said he was 'in awe' of his younger brother.
Decent performance from the team, some good performances. Big game Tuesday home to Penrhiwfer, lets take this victory and go in to that game with some confidence and a good result is possible.

STANLEYTOWN 3 - 1 LLWYNYPIA

This week Stanleytown welcomed local rivals Llwynypia. The home side were looking to put midweek’s nightmare behind them and get back on track. With 3 new signings and several players returning it was a different squad to midweek. The game got underway but unfortunately things didn’t look too much different from the previous game with the home team looking lethargic and unwilling to put any effort in to the game. This was soon reflected in the score line when it was the away team finding the net first after 20 minutes when the winger was found free in the box and fired past the keeper to give Llwynypia the lead. Things didn't look like getting any better as it was Llwynypia who still looked the more dangerous team. 10 Minutes before the half time things started to change when Stanleytown levelled things up when Karl Williams headed the ball in off a corner kick. This seemed to be the boost Stanleytown were looking for and the home team finished the half looking the stronger team. After some strong words being exchanged half time the teams took to the pitch and the second half started how the first ended, with Stanleytown looking the better team. Taking nothing away from Llwynypia, who worked hard and still threatened to break the Stanleytown backline. The home team got the next goal after 70 minutes, when new signing Michael Belmont showed some good footwork in the area and fired past the keeper from a wide angle to make it 2-1 to the home side. However this score line didn't last long as Carl Semmens played the ball through to Tyrone Jones who found himself 1 vs 1 with the goalkeeper and fired the ball home to make it 3-1 Stanleytown. Despite some valiant efforts from Llwynypia, Stanleytown were able to hold them off and see out the game. Final score, Stanleytown 3-1 Llwynypia.

Didn't seem to be at his sharpest today. Will run all day but needs to get back in to training. Taken off with a serious back injury.

Lee Bolderson - 7
Put in a shift, worked back all game, supported the attack, kept the ball.

CARDIFF DRACS 5 - 2 STANLEYTOWN
Craig Williams
Lee Bolderson
.
This week Stanleytown travelled to Cardiff Dracs for the senior cup. With a few injuries and absentees it was a changed starting 11 from the previous week. The game kicked off with the home team on top and looking for an early goal and created 2 or 3 great chances.
However it was Stanleytown who got the first goal when Craig Williams was played through by Lee Bolderson, he fired the ball past the keeper with a great finish. With their noses in front, Stanleytown now came under some great pressure, particularly down the flanks.
After 10 minutes of soaking up pressure the inevitable happened and things were levelled at 1-1, even though a little luck was involved with the home team. The ball was played in to the box low and came off Stanleytown defender Nathan Williams and looped over his own keeper. This seemed to bring Cardiff Dracs to life and it wasn't long before it was 2-1 and 3-1 to the home team after some lapses in concentration from Stanleytown. However Stanleytown were not out yet and got one back when Craig Williams flicked the ball on off a throw and found Lee Bolderson in the box, who fired the ball home. 3-2 Cardiff Dracs half time.
The second half started and the Cardiff team were looking the team on top, although Stanleytown continued to battle away. The game was seemingly killed off when Cardiff Dracs got the next goal with a free header in the box. If there was still any doubt as to the result, this was erased when the home team got their 5th when the striker stole the ball off the Stanleytown defender and fired the ball home.
Take nothing away from Stanleytown, who continued to battle and created a few decent efforts through Joe Eason and Tyrone Jones. They were not able to convert their chances and the final score was Cardiff Dracs 5-2 Stanleytown.

Good game at full back for Garry. Got stuck in and lasted the full 90. Didn't ask to come off once, same next time please.
John Williams - 6

Unlucky with the first goal (good finish tho) dealt with lots of pressure well.
Barrie Jones - 7
Had a good game back at centre half. Made one or two excellent clearances. Came off injured which is worry.
Jarrad Davies - 6
As physical as ever on the wing. Not as fit as he once was but still puts in a shift.
Ryan Cameron - 6
Great going forward, first full 90 in a while, seemed to tire late on. Likes to put his foot on the ball and play.
Karl Williams - 6

Lee Bolderson - 7 STAR MAN
Scored one, set one up. Was all over the place. Physical in the tackles and always looking for the ball.
Craig Williams - 6
Seemed to be playing with an anger and frustration. Ran down every ball and put in a few great tackles. And scored a great goal.
Tyrone Jones - 6
Feeding off scraps for large parts of the game. But done the thankless job up top and didn't complain, Closed down the defenders all game.
Matthew Smith - 6
Same old chucks, came on, kicked a boy in the mush, wound people up back at the club, went out and kicked off in ponty. Standard.
Joe Eason - 6
Moved to the bench last minute with an injured ankle. Seemed to bring the boys to life when he came on, tackles started going in and showing some fight.
Dale Hughes - 6

STANLEYTOWN 4 - 6 ABER VALLEY
Craig Williams 2
Joe Eason (p)
Barrie Jones
.
This week Stanleytown welcomed Aber Valley for the FAW cup. Again with several changes to the previous weeks starting 11. Things could not have started better with Craig Williams scoring after 10 seconds after a cross from deep from Alex Thomas was nodded past the keeper, 1-0 Stanleytown. This seemed to surprise Aber valley and wake them up. And it wasn't long before they were back in the game, when a ball was played from deep, the ball was nodded past the out coming Tom Lewis and fired home to make it 1-1. Aber valley soon took the lead when a header in the bottom corner was not dealt with by the home side, 1-2 Aber valley. However Stanleytown came back at them and when Joe Eason played a cross from deep, the away goalkeeper failed to claim the ball and it ended up in the net to even things up at 2-2. What followed next was a master class in poor defending. With mistakes coming from all areas, the away team were on hand to punish. With these silly mistakes, it wasn't long before Aber valley were 3-2, 4-2 and even 5-2 up. The half time whistle went and Stanleytown looked defeated as they walked off the field. However after a change of formation and a talking to off the management they took to the field with a new attitude. They started the second half and took it to the away team, and after some hard fighting they got their rewards when Joe Eason was brought down in the box for a penalty, he fired the ball home from the spot superbly in the top corner to make it 5-3. Stanleytown looked back in the game and right in the mood for a fight. However after a mistake in the back, Tom Lewis brought down the striker to concede a penalty which they scored to make it 6-3. Stanleytown continued to chip away though and got their reward when Barrie Jones scored late on from a Joe Eason corner to make it 6-4. There was little time left to continue the comeback and the ref blew for full time. Final score Stanleytown 4-6 Aber valley.

Tom Lewis - 4
Shocker in between the sticks. Made too many mistakes. Kicking wasn't great either. Did make one awesome save on to the bar in the second half.
Garry Edwards - 5
Has all the ability, but no positional awareness. Was centre half playing up front. Needs to chill out on some of the challenges as well.
Carl Semmens - 5
Done ok
Gary Belmont - 6
Has had better games. Missed a few headers and played quite deep. Looks a better player at 352. Likes to play the ball out of the back.
Nathan Williams - 6
Another who has had better games, but stuck at it till the end and made some good challenges later on (broke a rib apparently)
Alex Thomas - 6
Celebration needs work. Played a good ball for first goal. Worked back hard and helped out in defence. First game back, will get better with fitness.
John Williams - 6
Missed a few chances in the second half, unusual for him. Another winger who worked back tirelessly.
Barrie Jones - 6
Another goal. Another booking. Aggression gets the better of him sometimes. Put in tackles all over and chased the ball down all game.
Joe Eason - 6
Held on to the ball too long in the first half and got caught out. Second half he came in to the game, and you wont see a better penalty than the one he scored.
Karl Williams - 6
Couple of sloppy passes in the first half. Was better in the second half. Difficult against a striker who was dropping deep for the ball, but stuck at it.
Craig Williams - 6
Ran tirelessly as the lone striker first half. Got the early goal and trying to claim the second. Was isolated on his own up front, but came in to the game when playing with another striker.
Michael Belmont - 6
Deceptively quick feet. Team played better when he came on to play up top with Craig. Showed for the ball and run his legs off.
Phil Eason - 6
Came on for the injured Craig Williams, organised the defence well and brought some structure to the back.

CORNELLY UTD 3 - 0 STANLEYTOWN
.
.
This week, Stanleytown travelled to league high fliers Cornelly United. The game kicked off and things looked even, with both sides creating chances. Stanleytown were in the game and looking to go on top, but when captain Craig Williams played the ball through, his knee twisted and it was the end of his game after 15 minutes. The teams continued to battle and when Joe Eason made a tackle in the opposition corner, the player with a blatant stamp was sent for an early shower. After a few shaky moments in defence, the half time whistle went with things level at 0-0. The second half started, and again both teams were looking for the first goal. It eventually came to Cornelly after 60 minutes, when the striker took advantage of some poor Stanleytown defending, breaking 3 or 4 tackles and firing home from close range. This seemed to dampen Stanleytown spirits and Cornelly started to get on top of the game. It wasn't long before Cornelly got their second after some improvisation from the opposition winger, put the ball in the back of the net to make it 2-0 Cornelly. With Stanleytown chasing the game, they were looking more open in defence and Cornelly got their third with a finish from the edge of the box into the bottom corner, 3-0 Cornelly. Despite any Stanleytown efforts, they were unable to get on the score sheet and the final score was Cornelly 3-0 Stanleytown.

MAX UTD 1 - 2 STANLEYTOWN

.
Stanleytown travelled over the mountain this week to play The Max. Searching for a much needed 3 points, the management went with an attacking 352 formation. The game kicked off and Stanleytown got off to a flier with Alex Thomas cutting back inside on the edge of the 18 yard box and firing the ball past the keeper to give the away team the lead on 5 minutes. After the restart Stanleytown continued to dominate and chances were coming. They got their second when a set piece was played to the back post and Barrie Jones headed the ball across goal with Lee Bolderson there to tap in. 0-2 Stanleytown. Again after the restart Stanleytown dominated and continued to create goal scoring chances but were unable to convert any. The Max continued to battle away and hit Stanleytown on the counter and managed to pull one back on 25 minutes when the ball was crossed in the box was, it was volleyed home from close range, 2-1 Stanleytown. The Max were not back in the game and things were looking even with both sides battling hard for the next goal, but neither could find the break through and the teams went in at half time The Max 1-2 Stanleytown. The second half started as the first ended, with both sides looking for an opportunity. But neither team finding the net. Things looked bad for the away team when Tyrone Jones saw red for a tackle, but things were soon evened up with the dismissal of the opposition midfielder. With both teams on 10 men and the final whistle fast approaching, The Max threw everything at Stanleytown, but with legs tiring, the away team defended valiantly and held on to take all 3 points. Final score The Max 1-2 Stanleytown.

First game back, made several good saves. Quick off his line and made some great catches from balls out wide. Great to have him back.
Nathan Williams - 7
Often found himself being pulled out wide by the winger breaking through, but dealt with him well and as usual, got stuck in.
Barrie Jones - 7
Had a few off games lately but was back to his best this week. Made some excellent tackles late on, made his presence felt and was solid all game.
Gareth Smith - 7
Another who returned after a lengthy spell. Great to have back. Read the game well, made some great interceptions and tackles. Looked half dead after the game in the changing room mind.
Garry Edwards - 7
First half hour he played havoc at wing back, but tired a bit. If he gets fit he could be a great outlet at full back.

Took his goal well. Along with Garry, looked dangerous for half hour but tired later on. Was forced to defend for large portions of the game.

Got the better of his opposition. Run his legs off. Was out on his feet at the end. Great block in the dying stages.
Lee Bolderson - 7
Looking like one of the fitter players, worked till the end, tracking back and putting in some good tackles. One of the few players getting forward late on.
Joe Eason - 7
Played hell with the opposition for half hour, they couldn’t handle him. Worked back late on to muck in with defending. Kept the ball when we needed to hold on to it.
Tyrone Jones - 7
Couple of good chances, keeper making some good saves. Needs to get his confidence back and start having some shots. Debatable red.

Like a flying winger. Worked back, closed down, kept the ball out wide to run the clock down.
Michael Belmont - 7
Faced the hard task of playing lone striker. Put in a shift and held up the ball

Best game for little john in a long time. Got his tackles in, stole the ball, played it simple, cleared his lines.

FAIRWATER 5 - 1 STANLEYTOWN

This week Stanleytown travelled to Fairwater. With a bare 11 it wasn't the best of scenarios to be in. Before the game, both teams found themselves lined up and walking the length of the pitch to look for dog mess, a first for all. The match kicked off eventually and it really was a game of 2 halves this week. After conceding another early goal through some terrible defending, Stanleytown got stuck in, defended well, worked hard and got their rewards through a Joe Eason free kick which found itself in the bottom corner. Going in at half time the score was 1-1. After some encouraging words the team took to the field for the second half and may as well have carried big white flags with them, because from the kick off there was only ever one side in the game. Stanleytown lacked effort, belief and looked uninterested in the game. The home team started clocking up the goals, and if it wasn't for some great saves by goalkeeper Ian Reed, the score line could have been far worse. Final score, Fairwater 5-1 Stanleytown.

STANLEYTOWN 0 - 1 PENRHIWCEIBER
.
.
This week Stanleytown welcomed fellow league strugglers Penrhiwceiber. After a previous meeting of 3-2 to the away team it promised to be a close, hard fought game. This was shown in the first 5 minutes, with both teams battling hard but neither backing down. This was the story of the first half, few chances between the teams with the battling going on between the 2 18 yard box's. Score line at half time remained 0-0. The second half was the same as the first, both teams trying to force an opening, but both defences holding strong. However both teams were starting to get a few half chances and Ian Reed pulled off a few excellent saves. Stanleytowns best chances came from set-pieces and fell to Barrie Jones but were prevented with some excellent defending from the opposition. The game looked like ending at 0-0. However after some hard defending from the home team, the ball ricochet off 2 Stanleytown defenders and fell to the opposition striker who managed to loft the ball over Ian Reed and in the back of the net. Last minute of the game, the away team found the net and the winner, final score Stanleytown 0-1 Penrhiwceiber.

Our first game for a month and only the 3rd in 8 weeks saw us travel to 6th place AFC Whitchurch. With busy activity in the transfer market saw the squad include 4 new players with Martin Jones returning to the Town for his second spell and full debuts for Daniel Evans and Matthew Bishop, with Mitchell Tann amongst the subs. Spirits where high as we looked to put the previous games behind us and re-start our season with a win. As well as the new signings there were also returns to the side for skipper Craig Williams to partner Matthew Smith in the centre of defence and Jarrad Davies returning to the centre of midfield.
The game started with both sides evenly matched but it was Stanleytown who were looking the more dangerous going forward with the 3 new signings linking well with Joe Eason down the left to cause the Whitchurch defence problems. It was Eason's corner which led to the opening goal when his cross was met by the head of Garry Edwards to power past the keeper to grab his second goal of the season. Whitchurch did create chances themselves down the left but were unable to get anyone onto their crosses. At times they did manage to break through the middle but were unable to beat Ian Reed in the Town goal. Just before half time Lee Bolderson had a chance to double the lead only to see his lobbed shot from outside the box go narrowly over the bar. Half Time 0 - 1
The second half continued in the same manner as the first with both sides pressing knowing the next goal to be vital, but even though the game was back and forth neither keeper was really tested. It was Stanleytown who got the next goal when 15 mins into the half Martin Jones was left on his own on the edge of the Whitchurch box and fired in with his left foot to give the Town a 2 - 0 lead and relieve some of the pressure. With solid defending Whitchurch never really troubled the Town goal just being restricted to half chances that went harmlessly wide. Adam Green came on to replace the injured Barrie Jones with 20 mins remaining. Stanleytown had a chance to finish the game off with 10 mins left when a quick counter attack broke through the Whitchurch defence and with the goal gaping the ball fell to Eason 15 yards out but he dragged his wide. With the last kick of the game Whitchurch did finally break the Town back line with a shot from just inside the box crashing off the underside of the bar and just crossing the line. Final Score 1 - 2

STANLEYTOWN 0 - 1 FAIRWATER
.
.
This week Stanleytown welcomed league highfliers Fairwater. After an impressive win away to Whitchurch, there was one change to the starting 11 with Carl Semmens coming in for the absent Lee Bolderson. The game kicked off and it was the home team who looked the better side, playing some good football from the back through to the strikers. And it was Stanleytown who got the better chances. Craig Williams with 2 great headers which were both kept out only by some heroic saves from the Fairwater keeper. With Fairwater being reduced to half chances and their keeper keeping out the opposition, the first half ended 0-0, with Stanleytown feeling the more optimistic.
Kick off for second half, and it started as the first ended, with the home team looking comfortable in possession and looking to create chances. However on the hour mark, after a free kick was awarded in a dangerous position to Fairwater, the ball was only headed to the edge of the 18 yard box, where it fell to a Fairwater player, who struck well past Ian Reed to give the away team the advantage. This defiantly hit the Stanleytown players hard, but they soon got their rhythm back and started creating chances. With their keeper pulling off another excellent save, again from a Craig Williams shot and another being saved off the line by the Fairwater defender, it just wasn’t Stanleytowns day in front of goal. Despite a valiant effort the final whistle blew and the final score was Stanleytown 0-1 Fairwater.

After last weeks disappointing loss Stanleytown travelled to Lisvane/Llanishen. With only one change from the previous week with Lee Bolderson back in for Karl Williams. It was clear from the condition of the field that it wasn't going to be the prettiest of games. The game got underway and it didn't take Stanleytown long to threaten with Martin Jones going close. The away team also came close early on when the ball was crossed from out wide, only for the striker to head the ball straight in to Ian Reeds hands. Stanleytown were still well in the game though with Daniel Evans Coming close only for the oncoming keeper to make a great save. Martin Jones and Joe Eason also having decent chances saved. The breakthrough came after half hour when Lee Bolderson was brought down in the box by the opposition keeper, Craig Williams stepped up to fire the ball home to give the away team the lead. The game continued back and fore, with no real chances and half time Stanleytown lead 1-0. After a bit of a talking to and a few words of wisdom the second half kicked off and immediately The home team looked to threaten and Stanleytown came under significant pressure for 10 minutes. However some good defending from Stanleytown kept the home team at bay. Stanleytown finally got into the game and some fine skill from Joe Eason on 70 minutes gave Stanleytown their second goal, firing in from close range. From that point on Lisvane/Llanishen were reduced to half chances and Stanleytown were knocking the door for a third, Martin Jones finding himself in space on the penalty spot, only to fire just wide. And Daniel Evans inches away from connecting to a cross to the back post. Both teams battled hard and inside the final 10 minutes Keeper Ian Reed was bizarrely sent off. However Stanleytown dug in and saw the game out. Final score Lisvane/Llanishen 0-2 Stanleytown.

This week Stanleytown welcomed Garw in what was another 6 pointer. Karl Williams was the only replacement from last weeks win, coming in for Craig Williams, who was eating haggis and drinking whisky in Edinburgh. The game got underway and it was the away team who dominated play. After 15 minutes, Stanleytown played a long free kick deep to the opposition keeper, who quickly knocked the ball back up field. It was off this long kick up field that the first goal came, after a good bit of counter attack play from Garw left Stanleytown short at the back and Garw fired home to make it 0-1 to Garw. There wasn't much between the two teams for the next ten minutes. However when the Garw striker cut across Matthew Bishop, he was unable to prevent contact with his opposition and the ref pointed to the spot. Penalty kick converted, Stanleytown now left themselves with a mountain to climb. Half time Stanleytown 0-2 Garw. After some half time subs, Stanleytown took to the field and got underway with a more positive appearance. The home team were now looking to get back in the game and after a good spell of possession, they got their rewards. When the ball was crossed to the back post, Barrie Jones found himself with a free header, only for the ball to come back off the bar and fall to Alex Thomas, who smashed the ball home from close range. Game on. Both teams continued to trade blows, but neither could find the net. Most notable chances fell to the away team with 2 excellent chances inside the Stanleytown box going just wide. With time running out Stanleytown pressed for an equaliser. And when the ball was played in from deep it fell to John Williams in the box, who's shot was blocked, only for the ball to fall to Nathan Williams, who headed the ball, only to be kicked in the head and the second penalty of the game was awarded. Step up Joe Eason, who calmly converted to draw the game level at 2-2 with minutes to go. Final whistle went, Stanleytown 2-2 Garw.

This week Stanleytown travelled down the road to St Albans with the squad depth being heavily tested. Despite a valiant effort from the away team they were unfortunate to come away with a 3-2 loss. When the game got underway, both teams looked evenly matched, having a go at each other. But the home team had the ball in the net first when a moment of madness from Matthew smith, who tried flicking the ball off his head backwards to the keeper, only to lob Tom Lewis and put the ball in his own net. 1-0 St Albans. It was only minutes before the home team had the ball back in the net, when the St Albans striker found some space in the box and slotted the ball in the bottom corner to give the home team a comfy 2-0 lead. However this didn't dampen Stanleytown spirits and they continued to battle away, but were unable to find the net in the first half and it ended with the home team 2 goals to the good. Some encouraging words and the boys were back on the field ready for the second half. Straight away Stanleytown looked in the mood and threatened the St Albans goal but were unable to convert. However it wasn't long before they did have the ball in the net from the penalty spot when Matthew Bishop was brought down by the St Albans keeper, Craig Williams stepped up and finished with a great penalty. Stanleytown were back in the game and with their tails up. A great chance fell to Martin Jones who was only denied the equaliser by a great save from the opposition keeper. Moments after that, St Albans scored their third when a player found some space at the back post to volley home from close range. 3-1 St Albans. Again though Stanleytown didn't let it get their heads down and continued to fight. This effort was rewarded late on when Martin Jones flicked the ball in to the top corner from a cross to make it 3-2. However it was too little too late for Stanleytown, and despite a good effort they came up short. Final score St Albans 3-2 Stanleytown.

This week Stanleytown travelled down to Tongwynlais in what was another 6 pointer. Both teams needed a win on their sheet after 90 minutes and neither were going to go down easy. Due to injury and illness there was a few changes to last weeks starting 11. The first half provided a battling performance from each team. The best chance fell to Matthew Bishop, when Martin Jones skipped past two defenders brilliantly on the by-line and squared the ball to Matthew Bishop, who fired just wide from the edge of the 6 yard box. Another chance came to Joe Eason late in the first half who scuffed a shot from the edge of the box allowing the keeper to claw the ball just wide. Half time 0-0.
Second half, same performance. Both teams trying to create the opening but neither being able to do so. Half chances did come to Barrie Jones and Joe Eason but both delayed their shot for a second to long and let the defence scramble back to make a challenge. Despite a valiant effort from both teams, the points were shared at the final whistle, final score Tongwynlais 0-0 Stanleytown.

Our final game of the season saw us travel to league runners up Pontlottyn knowing defeat would end our South Wales Senior League status after more than 20 years. There were several players unavailable but there were welcome returns to the squad for Craig Williams and Jarrad Davies.
As the game started it was clear Pontlottyn wasn’t just there to complete their season but wanted to go out with a win and that set the stage for a good competitive final game of the season. Both sides were looking dangerous going forward with both defences being broken but neither side could really work the opposition goalkeeper with mainly shots coming from long range. Half Time 0 – 0
The second half continued in the same manner as the first but as the game was getting on the play was getting stretched and going from end to end. Our best chance fell to Jarrad Davies just inside the box after some good build up play between Joe Eason and Martin Jones, but Jarrads shot came crashing back off the bar. Pontlottyn did come close on a few occasions but some valiant defending with Adam Green and Lee Bolderson both clearing balls off the line and some brave goalkeeping scrambling the ball away in amongst the boots of the Pontlottyn attackers. The best chance of the match also fell to the home side with what was the last kick of the game after a fantastic save by Ian Reed the ball fell kindly to the striker who from 8 yards out with an empty net in front of him somehow managed to blaze the ball over the bar. Final score 0 – 0
With the news then coming through of Penrhiwfer beating Penrhiwceiber 2 – 1 and Llwynypia failing to beat Tonyrefail it meant we moved up one place on goal difference and more importantly out of the relegation zone ensuring we will be playing our football next season in the Senior League

Player Ratings
Ian Reed 9 – STAR MAN
Made some brave saves in the second half and one excellent one right at the end. First official clean sheet
Adam Green - 7
Run himself into the ground and was struggling to move in the last 5 mins, great goal line clearance
Nathan Williams - 7
Solid in the back and put his body on the line a few times, didn’t lose many challenges. Taken by surprise in the first half when Reedy threw the ball at him!
Garry Edwards - 8
One of Googs better games, like his centre back partner didn’t miss much and made some vital tackles. Did decide to go wandering once in the last 5 mins though
John Williams - 7
Was getting dragged in a bit in the first half, but stuck at his job and didn’t leave the winger get the better of him, some important interceptions towards the end
Barrie Jones - 7
Been said before, but he is the most attacking holding midfielder ever, but fair play he gets up and supports the front men and is quick to come back and help his defence out
Lee Bolderson - 7
Didn’t stop moving all game and always wanted the ball. Made one cracking header off the line in the second half
Alex Thomas - 7
The birthday boy was always a threat with his pace and put some decent crosses into the box. Done his fair share of defending
Joe Eason - 8
Put in a good shift and their defence couldn’t handle his trickery, always looked dangerous when going forward
Martin Jones - 7
Another who was out on his feet at the end of the game, was up and down on the right wing and looked threatening when running at the defence
Craig Williams - 7
A welcome boost before the game when the skipper declared he was fit, held the ball up and linked up with the other 3 well, had a few chances
Jarrad Davies - 7
Answered the managers SOS to make his first appearance since February, and it was the same old Jarrad, didn’t stop for the 30 mins he was on and saw his effort crash back off the bar
