12-Sep-13:- Under 16's Friendly - Carnetown Away

There were plenty of positives to take away from this pre-season friendly and didn’t deserve to lose 2 – 1. First half both sides had decent chances and it was in injury time that Carentown were awarded a penalty which was scored to give them a 1 – 0 HT lead. Second half was well dominated by Stanleytown and got a deserved equaliser mid way through the half through an own goal. Carnetown snatched the win in the final minute when a free kick from out wide was headed in. Final Score 2 - 1
Season starts Sunday against Cambrian/Clydach[B] on Stanleytown Field, 2:00pm kick off
Player Ratings
Dylan Bruford - 6
Positive: Didn't have a lot to do in the game, credit to the boys playing in front of him. But still, when he was called upon he done well.
Negative: Needs to come off his line quicker and be more vocal between the sticks. I'm sure this will come with confidence.
Leon Jones - 7
Positive: Strong in the tackle and didn't lose much in the air. Left footer playing at right back, you'd never have guessed!
Negative: Needs to get forward more when possible and call for the ball when he's in space.
Connor Roberts - 8
Positive: Commanding in the air, strong in the tackle, pace to burn (36 pace on fifa apparently) everything you want from a centre half. Except...
Negative: Needs to be more vocal.
Callum Westcott - 8
Positive: Given the captains armband and led by example, organised the defence well and sweeped up everything.
Negative: Another one who needs to talk more on the field. Couldn't shut him up on the way home in the car. Went wandering late on in the game.
Luke Jenkins - 6
Positive: Started the game well, good in the tackle. Went on one run Bale would have been proud of.
Negative: Forced off early with an injury. Need him to be fit for Sunday.
Shay Rees - 7
Positive: What he hasn't got in height he makes up for with his running, he doesn't stop! Think his father has taught him well - if you can't catch 'em, kick 'em!
Negative: Need to try and save some energy, run out of puff a little bit towards the end.
Dylan Lewis - 8 (STAR MAN)
Positive: Full of energy in the engine room. Got quality on the ball. Always wants the ball too, which takes pressure off team.
Negative: got over run on a couple of occasions with 2 in the middle.
Zac Lewis - 7
Positive: Equally quality on the ball. Sat in front of his centre halfs to give them protection. Worked well with Dylan.
Negative: brilliant when he's got the ball, needs to demand it more.
Brandon Coombs - 7
Positive: good outlet on the left. Confident on the ball. Dropped back to left back late on and done well.
Negative: got blisters from his new boots and had to come off early because of it. Got involved in the nonsense at the end of the game - no need for it.
Jamie Coombs - 7
Positive: Fast and Strong. Held the ball, got a lot of shots off. Could have come away with a couple of goals on a different day.
Negative: Got involved in the nonsense at the end of the game - no need for it. Needs to keep his head.
Leon Bryant - 7
Positive: Linked up well with the midfield. Moved out wide left to help out in the second half and looked dangerous cutting in on his right foot.
Negative: looked for the pass a bit to much when the shot was on. Be more greedy!
Nathan 'Halfpint' Harries - 6
Positive: had a couple of nice touches when he came on, was near to the ball when it went in for out goal. Therefore he's claiming it!
Negative: Gave silly free kicks away.
Michael Williams - 6
Positive: Got stuck in at right back. He likes it there now
Negative: looked lost right midfield. He doesn't like it there.

Chris 'Smokey' Owen - 6
Positive: chased things down up front. Look a bit lively.
Negative: looked lost at right back. Doesn't mind where he plays. Just not in goals, defence or midfield.

27-May-12:- Chairmans End of Season Report

The Season started in typical Stanleytown way. First 6 games only 2 wins and 4 defeats 6 points.
But all football was put into context in September when club stalwart Karl Williams and children lost his wife and their mother Michelle after a short illness. The thoughts of the Club and Players are still with him and we hope to see him soon.
The young players introduced to the Club by Manager Gareth Hurton were a revelation but took some time to settle in.
Some new players came and went for whatever reason, but the true loyal players remained.
Although we were making progress in February 2012 Gareth Hurton resigned as manager after 20 Games and achieving 19 points for personal reasons and we wish him all the best.
A new management team led by Nicky Rees with Gary Thomas and Marc Daniels was installed and although called many things in the past ( Original Bitter Boys etc ) They were unique and inspirational in guiding the Club to its 2nd highest League finish in 7 years by finishing 9th with 33 points and showed after all the years of playing for the Club they were prepared to stand up and be counted.
After all the worry we ended on a positive note and all the players were a credit to the Club
The Club has continued to make improvements off the field and we are delighted to announce that we are starting an under 16 side next season 2012 / 2013 under the leadership of Phil Eason.
My thanks go again to Mole, Tom, Mal for all the hard work they put in and without the Club could not survive.
With the status of the Leagues changing it is imperative that we improve next season and more support is needed to assist the Club to meet its obligations.
Any body interested in First Aid Courses, Football Coaching please get in touch with me but as important more help is required on MATCH DAYS and any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
I look forward to the Presentation Evening which will be held on Saturday 23rd June in Tylorstown Workmans, 7pm start
Me, Mole, Danno and Gary Thomas are going on a scouting mission to Poland for 10 days in June for the 2012 European Championship Finals. ( Somebody has got to go )
Once again Thank you all for another “ Memorable Season”

MAGUA ( GARETH LEWIS )
CHAIRMAN

29-Aug-11:- VICE PRESIDENTS CLUB

We are celebrating 35 years in existence and have had many players playing for us over this period. Some for many, many years and their loyalty is greatly appreciated and I trust they have enjoyed participating as well.

To ensure and support the future of the Club for many years to come we have the intention to create a VICE PRESIDENTS CLUB

A Page will be created on our WEBSITE listing those interested and giving details of their time with the “Town”

A Subscription of a minimum of £25 a year is required to become a Vice President.

If enough people are interested we would look to create an Annual Social activity, as yet undecided and open to suggestions.

If you are interested please contact any committee man or email the club at stanleytownfc@fsmail.net

19-May-11:- Chairmans End of Season Message

We are playing our Football in Division Two of the South Wales Senior League next Season. 2011 / 2012 ( I am confident )
Congratulations and thanks to all connected with the Club for what has been a difficult period going back to the end of the 2009 / 2010 season.

On the field we had a change of Manager in Gareth Hurton / Gareth Griffiths in February 2011 replacing Jeremy Morgan who had just over 2 years in the hot seat and credit must go to these for what sometimes is a difficult job.

Thanks to the players who stuck it out and some returning to the Town.

Results continue to confuse me, we can beat the top teams but teams around us seemed to win against us. We won only 2 games at Home and got only 11 points but 5 games Away got us 18 points.

Off the field the Dugouts were completed to comply with the League Regulations this is in addition to us providing barriers around the perimeter 3 years ago.
It however is getting more difficult ( self managing the changing rooms and field ) and more costly to put a side out with all the on going demands of the League.

Thanks must go to Mal , Tom, Mole for the service they have given to this club over many years but we need more bodies to run the Club off the field if we want to progress. Next Season will our 35th year in existence and the 19th in the South Wales Senior League

Our next task is to arrange the Presentation Evening knowing we are still in the Senior League details of which will follow.
Thanks to all involved

MAGUA
GARETH LEWIS

17-Dec-10:- Bruty Cup

Due to the delayed start to the season and the severe weather during December the South Wales Senior League have decided to cancelled this years C W Bruty Cup

28-Sep-10:- Start of the Season

A disappointing result against a good Ynyshir Albions left many of us bemused at the situation we find ourselves in.

Making no excuses but not knowing if we were in the Rhondda League or The South Wales Senior League until 6 Days before the season started did not help in Pre season preparations.

It also highlighted the need for more people to assist in the running of the team by assisting Jeremy on Match Days and on training issues as combining playing and managing is a difficult task.
Any Volunteers / Coaches, Assistant Managers out there??

The spirit amongst the Players as shown on Saturday with the trip to Swansea was great to see.

On the field, players should stick together and repeat some of our performances as against Lisvane, St Athans and Penrhiwfer and the results will come.

Stanleytown Football Club have traditionally been slow starters to a Season and as shown below we have had worse starts to a Season than this.
See below based on 6 Matches

Season W L D Pts Final League Position
2003/2004 3rd (55 pts) - Promoted
2004/2005 10th (33 pts)
2005/2006 15th (15 pts) - Relegated
2006/2007 12th (30 pts)
2007/2008 13th (27 pts)
2008/2009 4th (47 pts)
2009/2010 13th (31 pts)
2010/2011

I am convinced by the right attitude, commitment and support from ALL involved at the Club we can start winning and move up the League table.

GARETH LEWIS ( Magua )
CHAIRMAN

27-Aug-10:- Summer of Uncertainty

After a long summer of uncertainty of what league we would be playing in for the 2010 / 11 season a decision was finally made this week that we would continue to play in the South Wales Senior League.

After finishing last season 4th bottom in the league and 5 teams being relegated from the Welsh League it looked as if we would be playing in the Rhondda League this season. However following a successful appeal by Pontyclun against the Welsh league decision only 4 teams were to be relegated into the South Wales Senior & Amateur league which ensured our status in the Senior League.

09-May-09:- Heres a few facts... (provided by Matthew Smith)

Since Stanleytown got relegated from division 1 in 2006 they haven’t finished
higher than 12th: FACT!
Last time Stanleytown finished as high as 4th (excluding 2005) they haven’t finished
higher than 4th: FACT!
After signing a number of “rhondda league players” this season they are on course to finish 4th, the clubs highest position since 1998 (excluding 2005): FACT!
Carlsberg don’t do Rhondda leagues but if they did, they’d probably sign half of Stanleytowns most successful team for years (excluding 2005): FACT!
