Lisvane/Llanishen 2 - 3 Stanleytown
Jarrad Davies (2)
Ashley Davies

Our first game of the season saw us travel to Lisvane / Llanishen for a tough opening game. With a bare 11 this was always going to be a hard task and matters were not helped when Wayne Davies was forced to come off early due to injury which meant player/manager Jeremy Morgan had to play through the pain barrier for longer than he originally thought.

Despite these minor set backs we started the brightest with the movement of Matthew Symmons and Ashley Davies causing havoc amongst the Lisvane defence. It was this combination that set Jarrad Davies up for his first goal of the season. Soon after a brilliant solo run from Symmons, where the only answer the defence seemed to have was to kick him but to no avail, set up Jarrad for his second goal of the game by just getting his toe to the ball before the oncoming keeper. The half was rounded off by Ashley Davies who finished with a well taken goal to give us a 0 – 3 half time lead.

As we started the second half expecting an onslaught from Lisvane, and the didn’t disappoint, it was the hard working midfield of Jarrad, Lee Bolderson and Dale Hughes whose tireless efforts closed down well and restricted their attack to long shots only. On the occasions the managed to bypass our midfield they found it even harder to break the solid back four of Jarrad Facey, Craig Williams, Huw Evans and John Williams who between them didn’t lose one header all game. Lisvane did break through with a free kick from the edge of the box was driven through the wall giving Tom Lewis in goals no chance. Lisvane got a second 15 minutes later when a missed clearance fell to the edge of box and a shot was driven low into the bottom corner. There was time for some late drama when a looping header was tipped onto the bar by Lewis and dropped to the feet of the Lisvane striker who thought he had earned his team a point only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. Final Score 2 - 3

This was a well hard fought three points and hopefully we can take this performance into our next game on Saturday when we entertain St Athan.

Heard him being called ‘Tom cat’ after the game. Didn’t have a chance with either of the goals.
Positive: Organised a good wall.
Negative: Dale decided to move out of the wall.

John Williams 7
Plenty of defensive practise and John did well in his much favoured RIGHT BACK position.

Negative: Not sure if its down to the football or his love live

Jarrad Facey 7
Was more at home at left full back. Got stuck in and kept his man quiet
Positive: Looks like he’s been putting some intensive training in during the last few weeks
Negative: Shame its been with Nicky Rees ‘working’, and not on the football pitch

Craig Williams 8
Another quality performance at centre half, and takes a mean set piece.
Positive: Won countless challenges, carried forward his pre season form
Negative: 20 woodbines a day will have an effect on his fitness at some point

Huw Evans 8
Player and players player of the year did his bit again. Good partnership with frog.
Positive: No reason why he cant scoop the awards again this season
Negative: Rumours that ynyshir want to sign his has their 6th spare centre half

Lee Bolderson 8
Been best player in pre season and could see why. Becoming the player we knew he would be years ago.
Positive: Played on after horrific neck injury that jez fixed.
Negative: FC Cosmo have knocked his door checking his availability

Jarrad Davies 8
Last season played 21, scored 2. This season played 1, scored 2. Say no more.
Positive: Looking like the Rhondda league player we signed in 2008
Negative: Would take free kicks, throw ins, penalties, play in goal, defence, midfield, up front and even ref if he could - all in the same game.

Wayne Davies 7
Was too fast for them and suffered a couple of late challenges resulting in injury.
Positive: Looked dangerous until he came off injured.
Negative: Could be doubtful with bad knee.

Ashley Davies 8
Took his goal well in first half – could score a hatful this season.
Positive: Played out wide for good of the team and played on with injury for the good of the team.
Negative: Will have to change winning team formation to play him in favoured role up front.

Matthew Symmons 9 – STAR MAR
Absolutely murdered their defence. Ran rings around them in first half and the only way they could deal with him was to kick lumps out of him,
Positive: Was on a different level today, but he quite often is………..
Negative: No one knows if he will turn up on Saturday – not even him.

Jeremy Morgan 7
Played most of the game with cracked ribs. Did ok considering.

Stanleytown 1 - 1 St Athan
Ashley Davies

Our first home game of the season saw us welcome recently relegated St Athan, and looking to build on our mid week result only saw two forced changes with Karl Williams and Jason Carnell returning in place of the missing Jarrad Facey and the injured Wayne Davies.

Both sides started evenly with the game flowing from end to end, however both sides rarely troubled either keeper with shots mainly coming from long range, but with the better chances falling to us. We did take the lead half way through the first half with Ashley Davies finishing well to grab his second goal in as many games. Just before the break St Athan drew level when a slight mix up between Tom Lewis and John Williams saw Williams put the ball into his own net. Half Time 1 – 1

The second half took a familiar style to the first with a goal looking a long way off for both sides. The hard working midfield of Jarrad Davies, Lee Bolderson and Dale Hughes done well to protect the back four and also supported Matthew Symmons up front. Nicky Rees replaced Jason Carnell on the hour. With St Athan pressing hard towards the end it tested the centre half partnership of Huw Evans and Craig Williams, but they stood the test well and their strike force only managed to get one shot on target from the edge of the area which was saved well by Lewis. Just before the end Hughes broke through the middle only to see his shot go just past the far post. Final Score 1 – 1

Our next game is this Tuesday away to Penrhiwfer, 6.15pm kick off.

Stanleytown 0 - 9 Ynyshir Albions

A disappointing result against a good Ynyshir Albions left many of us bemused at the situation we find ourselves in.

Making no excuses but not knowing if we were in the Rhondda League or The South Wales Senior League until 6 Days before the season started did not help in Pre season preparations.

It also highlighted the need for more people to assist in the running of the team by assisting Jeremy on Match Days and on training issues as combining playing and managing is a difficult task.
Any Volunteers / Coaches, Assistant Managers out there??

The spirit amongst the Players as shown on Saturday with the trip to Swansea was great to see.

On the field, players should stick together and repeat some of our performances as against Lisvane, St Athans and Penrhiwfer and the results will come.

Stanleytown Football Club have traditionally been slow starters to a Season and as shown below we have had worse starts to a Season than this.
See below based on 6 Matches

Stanleytown 3 - 1 St Albans
Carl Semmens
Craig Williams
Matthew Symmons

Today Stanleytown played home to St Albans and were looking to get back to winning ways after a few disappointing results. And they didn’t make the job any easier with some dodgy defending for the first 15 mins. However it was the home team who were creating the better chances with Craig Williams going close on a few occasions and Ashley Davies missing a sitter. The break through came after 30mins when Carl Semmens hit a long range shot with not much conviction and the away keeper unfortunately fumbling the ball into his goal. 1-0 Stanleytown. This seemed to spark the home team to life and they defended well and created more chances before the halftime whistle. The second half started as the first ended with Stanleytown on top and creating lots of chances. Then the second goal came from some neat passing between several players. 'a proper football goal' which was finished neatly by Craig Williams. This seemed to kill the game off and Stanleytown then dominated the game. The third goal came from a piece of individual work from Matthew Symmons when he took on several players before hitting a half decent shot from the edge of the area which the St Albans keeper was unfortunate to fumble again and the ball went in . 3-0 stanleytown. there was a consolation goal for St Albans when the winger hit a fierce shot from an impossible angle in to the top corner past the helpless Nicky Rees. It finished 3-1 to Stanleytown. 3 good points in a well earned win!

Stanleytown 2 - 2 St Josephs
Craig Williams
Lee Bolderson

This week Stanleytown welcomed new boys St Josephs, looking to pick up where they left off last week. 2 Changes saw Huw Evans and Ashley Davies absent so John Williams and new signing Alex Thomas Start in their place. It was a lively start which seen both sides have good chances, but it was St Josephs that got the first goal approximately 20 minutes into the half when some questionable defending from a free kick saw an easy tap in for the St Josephs player. 1-0 St Josephs. However it didn’t take long for Stanleytown to hit back with a peach of a pass from the revitalised Marc Daniels was taken down beautifully on the chest of Craig Williams and slotted home. 1-1. There was a few yellow cards shown in the first half but both teams finished the half with 10 men with Jarrad Davies being sent off for 2 very silly challenges, but not before giving away a penalty, which was heroically saved by 'Mr Stanleytown' Nicky Rees. Half time 1-1. The second half started with Alex Thomas being brought off for Lee Bolderson who was returning from a few weeks out with injury. the second half started as the first ended, with both teams making chances. But it was Stanleytown who got the next goal approximately on the hour mark, when Carl Semmens picked the ball up on the half way and played the ball in to the path of Lee Bolderson on the edge of the 18 yard line, there was only ever going to be one outcome from there, 2-1 Stanleytown. This seemed to spark St Josephs in to life and Stanleytown had to soak up a lot of pressure and defended well. However in approximately the 75th minute their resilience paid off when they played a ball through to their striker in approximately the 70th minute, shouts of offside from the Stanleytown defence were waved away by the referee and the St Josephs striker put away the ball. 2-2. The game continued back and fore for the remainder of the game with half decent chances falling to each side, most notably the double save from Nicky Rees in the dying stages which kept Stanleytown in the draw. The game finished 2-2 which many said was a fair reflection of the game. A well earned and good point! .

Negative - Was lucky not to give away a penalty with some strictly come dancing moves inside the box in the first half, very cunning

Was doing well at his full back slot before being called into the middle of the park. great on the ball and a great old head to have in the team
Positive - Calm on the ball and skilful. Still able to take on 2 or 3 players and play some great balls
Negative - Nicky Rees has made more appearances than him in training, also left the club early after the little scally Shay was seen attempting triple back somersaults off the stage!

Marc Daniels - 7
Looking like a 25 year old (for the first 45) puts himself about and takes no prisoners, exactly what you want in a holding midfielder
Positive - His ball to Frog for his goal was top drawer! Also bullies his opponents and is another old head and a great addition to the team
Negative - Half man half robot, knees are f**ked, backs f**ked, takes him a while to get back to his feet after a challenge

Was playing some excellent football before being sent off for 2 needless yellow cards
Positive - was running the show, usual jarrad davies, here there and everywhere, winning headers, passing, defending, supporting strikers

Negative - This one is easy....The pink boots and the hair! enough said! oh.. and went for sunbed after the game

Craig Williams - 9 STAR MAN
Another class, Excellent game from the versatile frog man. Can win headers, hold ball up, run with ball and shoot on target (sometimes)
Positive - Cant recall him losing an header all game, also took the ball very well for his goal and the finish was equally as good, also a calming influence when things were heating up!
Negative - Then went and got himself booked late on for giving the ref a mouthful!

Lee Bolderson - 7
First game back capped with a goal. Came on and give the game some much needed energy
Positive - Took his goal well and sparked Stanleytown to life when he came on. Also defended well
Negative - Another no show back at the club

Came on for danno to sit in the middle and protect the back 4, won some balls and spread the ball
Positive - Seemed more positive this week after a few weeks looking down in the dumps and it showed in his performance
Negative - For their second goal was the furthest player forward! Also back at the club he named an excellent wales squad which included Lee Trundle from liverpool! =D

Gareth Jones - 7
Came on up front and did a good job, putting himself about and defending from the front
Positive - Won a lot of ball in the air and was unlucky with a good long range shot and done a lot of running for the team
Negative - Hasn’t had a chance yet to show what he can do for a full game, but his chance will come

Subs not used - Jarrad Facey and Tom Lewis

Spotted in the crowd....
Wayne Davies looking almost back to fitness
Ashley Davies sporting a dodgy tan to say the least
Gary Thomas spotted with a tear in his eye on his sons debut
Hobble stuffing his face back at the star
Stephen Morris keeping an eye on the performance of Nicky Rees in the sticks

Back by popular demand is the x factor prediction
This week saw Matt Cardle and Rebecca Ferguson with the best performances. Wagner is a joke, dever fever need a good slap, cher is right up my street and Katie sounded a lot better than last week. In the running for the exit this week are Dever fever, wagner, katie and Aiden. It would be a great shame if Aiden goes this week as he is a good singer. so my prediction is Wagner and Katie will go this week!

Fochriw 0 - 2 Stanleytown
Jarrad Davies
Craig Williams

This week Stanleytown visited Fochriw who were looking to climb even further up the league but with Stanleytown on a decent run this was always going to be tricky! The game started with 4 changes with Jeremy Morgan, Lee Bolderson, Huw Evans and Dale Hughes in for the missing Gareth Smith, John Williams and Karl Williams and Alex Thomas rested. The game started with Stanleytown looking the more likely of the two teams to break the deadlock with some good great play in the opponents half with Craig Williams and Jarrad Davies coming close. It was Stanleytown who got the first goal with Jeremy Morgan crossing the ball and Jarrad Davies nipping in to the ball before the goalkeeper, 1-0 Stanleytown. This seemed to spark the home team in to life and they started pressing for an equaliser which would have come if it wasn’t for some excellent saves from Nicky Rees. Half time 1-0 Stanleytown. The second half kicked off with Stanleytown coming out on top again and looking for a second goal, this came about 20 mins into the second half when Marc Daniels spread the ball out to Carl Semmens who played a through ball out to Craig Williams who slotted the ball home superbly with his left foot. 2-0 Stanleytown. The home team then started to get on top in the game and pressured Stanleytown for large periods. Jarrad Facey and Alex Thomas came on to replace the tired legs of Carl Semmens and Dale Hughes. The away team seemed content to see the game out with the scoreline remaining the same. Final score 2-0 Stanleytown. Excellent away win! Unbeaten in 4. Keep it up!.

Fairwater 1 - 3 Stanleytown

Matthew Symmons

This week Stanleytown travelled to Fairwater, looking to get a result and gain more pressure on the teams above them. The preparation was far from good, as Huw Evans got lost due to him following a van which looked like gazy’s, leading him far from the pitch as well as Dale Hughes taking a chance and jumping into the passenger seat of Wayne Davies’s car, which ended up them doing a de tour around Radyr. This proved to chaotic proceedings as Jeremy Morgan was like Fabio Capello, getting ridiculously stressed and wanting to name the team fifty minutes before kick off.

The game started with Dale Hughes slotting in at centre half for the impressive and in form matthew smith, Gareth Jones coming in at right wing, Karl Mole taking up his accomplished centre midfield slot in the place of Jarrad Davies, with ‘tan man’ Ashley Davies taking hold of his natural left wing slot.

The game started with Fairwater taking possession of the play and Stanleytown having to defend on numerous occasions. However, Stanleytown seemed to look very dangerous with the counter attack, with Craig Williams producing great touches and the pace of Matthew Symmons up front, causing a lot of trouble for the Fairwater defence.

On the Half Hour mark, the breakthrough came, with Craig Williams getting in between the fairwater defence, producing a great touch and taken down by the defender but scoring his fourth goal in four games, This looked to be a stonewall penalty and sending off, but the referee gave the goal (which was a good decision) and the Town were 1-0 up.

Half time Fairwater 0 – 1 Stanleytown

During the Half time interval, Player/manager Jeremy Morgan gave a telling off to the boys about knocking long balls, which got taken into consideration by a lot of the players, due to the professionalism of the squad at the moment

During the second half, Stanleytown produced some nice one touch football, but Fairwater seemed eager to try and get the equaliser. Twenty minutes into the second half, the equaliser came, with some day dreaming by the back four. This led to the tall Fairwater centre half heading the ball past the impressive Nicky Rees. This led to Stanleytown trying to prove what has got them good results in the last four games and their work ethic could not be faulted. Five minutes later, Stanleytown were awarded a corner kick. Lee Bolderson tried to pick Dale Hughes up, who was aggravating the goalkeeper slightly, in order to gain an advantage, which led to a ‘nick’ off his nose, the keeper fondling the ball and Stanleytown taking a 2-1 lead.

This was a great goal at a pivotal moment and Stanleytown knew that a win was almost certainly on the cards. Five minutes later, Fairwater had a great opportunity to draw level, but the header came in with Nicky Rees making a great save and one – two with the post and back into his hands. As usual when Stanleytown take the lead, great pressure was invited on themselves but fifteen minutes before time, Matthew Symmons produced some terrific pace on the half way line, skipping past the last defender and slotting the ball past the goalkeeper from a ridiculous angle. Great finish from a top Stanleytown player Stanleytown 3-1.

The away team, seemed a confident bunch, looking very tight and secure and able to see the game out with a great win in Cardiff.
Fairwater 1 – 3 Stanleytown

PLAYER RATINGS

Nicky Rees – 8
Why hasn’t this boy been playing in goal all his life? Probably the first name on the team sheet, literally. Made some great saves, and even knows how to delay kick off, knowing the fitness is not tremendous of the outfield players. Punched really well when needed and has got some hell of a punch on him fair play.
Positive – His punches are great, made some vital saves and is very secure in goal. Very good at communicating with his team mates
Negative – Getting on a bit to extend his career as a goalkeeper. Still looking for a place up front. Kicking of goal kicks at times is still debatable

Jeremy Morgan – 8
Jeremy Morgan/Fabio Capello/player manger/non-bitter boy/stressed eric/old head slotting in at right back and looking very accomplished. Produced a number of touchline clearances that chuckles and Carlos would have been proud of, but defended very well and also produced some nice crosses into the box
Positive – defended well when asked to by his centre halves, got forward well and tackled superbly. Great effort at right back
Negative – often thinks he his as good as Alan Hutton

Lee Bolderson – 8
Lee Bolderson like many of the Stanleytown players, asked to play in a un favoured position but doing superbly now on a few occasions when asked. Played at left back, defended well, great touch and looks accomplished when going forward
Positive – knows how to defend and communicates well with the whole team. Delivers a great set piece, great attacking and even his prepared to not pull out of a tackle
Negative – still wants to claim goals even when it is most certainly an OG

Huw Evans – 9 STAR MAN
Just piped Danno on this performance to Star man. Defended superbly. The old head gets more accomplished at centre half week in week out. Communicated superbly with his team mates and even had to adjust to another centre half partnership in Dale Hughes
Positive – So secure at the back, that its ridiculous to think that he was going to drop down a league in the summer to go and play Rhondda League. Can see why he picked up so many trophies in the summer because he is playing at the very best. Great touch again communicated superbly with everyone and won his fair share of headers. UN sung hero at the heart of the Stanleytown squad. Loving his football at the moment and also loving the tackle.
Negative – pointed out in the club that he is now 33….sorry Huw

Dale Hughes – 8
There was shaking heads all the way to Cardiff when it was said Hollywood would be playing at centre back, but was able to form a good partnership with Huw, won a few headers against a tall and strong side as well as put the foot in when necessary. Had to try and replace a superb centre half in chuckles and he would have been proud.
Positive – He is tall, can win headers and can jump. As Jez Morgan pointed out, why wouldn’t he be able to play centre half, he has all these attributes to his game. Made some good headers from their set pieces and communicated well with the whole team throughout the match.
Negative – His first touch often meant a great touchline Clarence. Hard to figure out his best position, he is that good
J J.

Ashley Davies – 8
Came in at left midfield and showed some great glimpses at what has got him four goals for the season. Has bags of pace and can frighten defenders at times
Positive – has great confidence in his ability, links up well with his team mates when he has the ball and looks dangerous on many occasions.
Negative – didn’t produce the tan which everyone is expecting. Still getting use to his role as left wing when on the defending side, but when he is as good as attacking when he is, should it matter?

Gareth Jones – 8
Gazzi came in at right midfield and looked very good. Very powerful and defended well for the team, helping out at the back and then when back into a more ‘happy’ role in the second half in centre midfield
Positive – The ‘hometown Stanleytown boy’ finally got his first start of the season at right midfield, which was very much deserved and his commitment to the cause can not be faulted. Defended well when needed, looked very strong and his fitness is improving on a weekly basis
Negative – was asked to play right midfield which left him looking like Casper the friendly ghost in the changing room and probably poo’ed his pants
J . gave a superb
team performance never the less

Marc Daniels – 9
This guy reminds everyone of a white Michael Essien. Is doing superbly in this holding role and putting in some quality tackles for the cause. Made some faultless tackles, looks comfortable and is again one of the first names on the team sheet.
Positive – If this is what he is like when he is playing now, he must have been of the highest quality twenty years ago. Brilliant performance and making youngsters on the opposite side look below average. So good that he is never even in the thought of being taken off.
Negative – takes a week to recover

Karl Williams – 8
Karl Mole was slightly nervous when told he was playing centre midfield, but the rest of the boys knew that he can play in this role and his experience alongside Danno showed he has still got his best years in front of him
J. Like the other midfielders, had a five man Fairwater midfield to cope with at first, but did everyone proud and even when he had the ball at his feet, when past players and showed some great touches. Never gave the ball away
Positive – great first touch, can think about his positioning on the field and is prepared to play in any position given to him. Super Jarrad who??
Negative – Where has Shane Mole been the last couple of games??

Craig Williams – 8
The striker is beginning to tear opponents apart up front and his versatility, touch and finishing is proving a key to Stanleytowns five match unbeaten run. Was terrorising defenders all day and his work ethic is superb. Dropped back in midfield for a bit in the second half, chased everything down and proving to be successful in any partnership he has up front
Positive – Linked up well with the whole team, showed some really neat touches, can head the ball, is very strong, can tackle and his finish for the first goal was top drawer. Could have gone down (we know Hernandez would have) but with the eye for goal he has at the moment, knew that a goal would be better for the whole team
Negative – rumour going around after the game that some tapping up has been in place about him being asked to sign for Ferndale. Hope his head doesn’t be turned by a bigger contract. Magua needs to put an extended contract on the table about this one.

Matthew Symmons – 8
Was placed up front in his favoured striker role and his pace and ability in front of goal was significant in the outcome of this game. Some great touches, never scared to go into a tackle and chased back when needed, which shows his positional thinking and cause for the team is very good
Positive – Scored a great goal, out pacing the centre halves, linked up really well with Williams up front, defended from the front and even took a few knocks for his troubles. Symmo proves a great outlet for the whole team, and his goal came when Town were under a lot of pressure.
Negative – Caused a bit of a rift after the game when he said he wasn’t going to Cardiff, with ‘tan man’ Ashley Davies after the game.

Jarrad Facey – 7
Came on as sub for the last twenty minutes and slotted in really well, even though Stanleytown were under the cosh. Not afraid to put in a tackle, which proved when the centre midfielder for Fairwater was standing over him when he was ‘munched’. Beginning to get more game time and is doing himself justice when used.
Positive – Playing well when coming on as sub and can play in a number of roles throughout the side. Good touch and not afraid to pull out of tackle. Even headed the ball on a few occasions, when it looked to be looping over his head
Negative – what is Jarrads best position. Struggled to fit into the showers after the game, had to have a nudge to get his bum through

John Williams – 7
Little John came on as sub and is another player who is prepared to be there every Saturday afternoon. Produced some neat touches, slotting in nicely at right back very well and knew his role straight away. Beginning to be seen as an experienced Town player
Positive – Can play well in a number of positions and knows his defensive as well as offensive positions very well. Played well at the start of the season and competition through the whole squad is healthy enough to keep everyone on their toes. Doing well when playing the minutes he has
Negative – how long will little John stick around when kicking his heels on the sides
J

Carl Semmens –

Stanleytown 2 - 6 Sully Sports
Craig Williams
Jarrad Davies

Today Stanleytown welcomed League one side Sully Sports for a cup game. With a few changes from last weeks win over Fairwater there was a few players with a point to prove. It was sully who came out from the start looking the better team with some confident and good passing through the field. It didn’t take too long for them to break the deadlock when a brilliant solo effort from the striker saw him skip through 2 or 3 challenges and fire the ball passed a helpless Nicky Rees at the front post! 1-0 Sully. However Stanleytown didn’t let this get to them as the quickly responded when Carl Semmens crossed a good ball and the goalkeeper fumbled the ball to Craig Williams. It was only going to be one outcome, as he tucked the ball away in the corner, 1-1. Sully soon broke again though and when their striker somehow bounced out of 2 challenges and played a great ball through to his partner he nestled the ball away, 2-1 sully. Stanleytown once again showed their fighting spirit when a free kick right on the corner flag line was dangerously whipped in by Jeremy Morgan, Jarrad Davies Headed the ball brilliantly passed the floored keeper, 2-2. With the game all square the half ended 2-2. The second half started pretty much the same as the first with Sully on top, and when a free kick was given on the edge of the area, which their striker took and it appeared Dale Hughes handled the ball in the area...Penalty, which the striker made no mistake with, 3-2 Sully. This seemed to dampen Stanleytown spirits so early on in the second half and they never really seemed to look like getting back in the game and throughout the second half Sully managed to score 3 more goals, 2 of them coming late on in the game, final score 6-2 Sully. Although the score line suggests this was a one sided affair this wasn’t the case and Stanleytown can be proud of the performance and spirit they showed through the game, more of the same next week away to Llwynypia!

Llwynypia 3 - 1 Stanleytown
Matthew Symmons

This week Stanleytown took a trip over the mountain to local rivals Llwynapia. With both teams midtable 3 points would come in handy for both sides. It was Llwynapia who started the stronger side with them pressing Stanleytown early on. And it was the home side that got on the score sheet first when a failed clearance from Nicky Rees and Jeremy Morgan gifted the ball to their opponents inside the 6 yard box and he drilled the ball in to the bottom corner, 1-0 Llwynapia. Llwynapia continued to dominate the remainder of the first half with Stanleytown reduced to half chances. Half time 1-0 Llwynapia. The second half saw the introduction of Jarrad Davies and Matthew Symmons for Jarrad Facey and John Williams, it was these introductions that seemed to spark Stanleytown in to life and they started to get on top and dominate their opponents with great chances falling to Craig Williams, Matthew Symmons, Jarrad Davies and Huw Evans. However it was Llwynapia who scored the next goal when a breakaway from the home side saw a ball crossed into the box and the striker leaped to nod the ball passed the keeper and leave Matthew Smith grounded, 2-0 Llwynapia. Stanleytown continued to fight and their resilience payed off when Matthew Symmons created a 1 on 1 with the keeper and put the ball in the back of the net. With Stanleytown back in the game they continued to dominate the second half but failed to capitalise on their chances. In the late stages of the game Llwynapia got a third goal with a questionable offside call, but the goal was given, final score 3-1 Llwynapia. Not the result the club was looking for but with spirits high at the club surely it won’t take long to get back to winning ways!

Matthew Smith - 6
Blamed himself for the 2nd and 3rd goal, i disagree, just the second was his fault
Positive - Was solid for the duration of the game against some good strikers

Not his best game in the stanleytown shirt, maybe he was trying to impress his mates on the opposition team too much?
Positive - Another who was solid for a lot of the game, didn’t give much away
Negative - Missed a header that looked harder to miss than score. Also was sat down like a little boy by his best mate for Llwynapia

St Albans 2 - 0 Stanleytown

This week Stanleytown faced a trip to Cardiff side St Albans, and once again it was with a bare 11 only because of the return of Kenny Robbins. And after a long period off due to the bad weather it was never going to be an easy game. And it was an even start to the game with both sides having decent chances. Dale Hughes having a good shout for a penalty turned away. However things got a little harder for the town when Matthew Symmons took a knock to the ankle and was forced off for the remainder of the first half, however after soaking up a lot of pressure Stanleytown managed to come in half time 0-0. The second half started with Stanleytown back up to 11 players and Nicky Rees soon had a glorious chance from inside the box which he pulled wide of the left post. Both teams continued to battle for possession and Stanleytown soon had another chance when the ball fell to Matthew Symmons who miss hit the ball due to his injury. After this Stanleytown lack of fitness seemed to show and St Albans started pressing more and got the breakthrough when the ball was crossed from the by line and floated over the helpless Tom Lewis and put away by St Albans striker. 1-0 St Albans. Straight after going 1-0 up St Albans broke down the other side of the pitch and with a similar chance the striker put the ball in the back of the net, 2-0 St Albans. However 2-0 down Stanleytown did continue to battle, however creating little chances but playing some good passages of play. Final score St Albans 2 - 0 Stanleytown. A disappointing result but with more players turning up and more effort there is no reason why next weeks result cant be a little more positive!.

Positive - Goal kicks reaching at least 30 yards now
Negative - A little reluctant to come and collect the ball and when the ball is being crossed in the air

Nicky Rees - 6
Forced in to the right back position due to lack of numbers and struggled a little
Positive - Never game up running, even tho he was suffering with heavy man flu
Negative - Miss-timed almost every header because his tired legs couldn’t get him in the air (think the whole torres saga was playing on freds mind) Also missed a good chance at 0-0 at the start of the first half.

Karl Williams - 6
Once again showed great skill in patches and strong in the left back slot
Positive - Always good to have an old head on your side, great feet
Negative - Struggled to get back when they countered

Matthew Smith - 7
Done well against a decent striker
Positive - Anticipated the ball well and won a lot of headers
Negative - Struggled with the sat nav in the car, thats all i'll say!

Huw Evans - 6
Another of the better performances, has formed a good partnership with chuckles in the back
Positive - Had another of his wonder runs late on
Negative - Shouted to Taiwan Tom that the ball had gone out for the first goal and was no where to be seen for the second

Carl Semmens - 6
Still Struggling with fitness, looking for worms again
Positive - Showed glimpses of good footwork and came in to the game when moved to right back

Kenny Robbins - 7 STAR MAN
This is the only return of king kenny we will be interested in this season, like he had never been away
Positive - Has a bigger tank than the british army, never stops running and its fair to say he is committed to every challenge he makes
Negative - Said he couldn’t move after the game which is a bad sign

Craig Williams - 7
Played a lot of the game as a lone striker due to injuries which didn’t suit frog mans game
positive - Always gives 100% every game, running opponents down and winning headers
Negative - Isolated for large parts of the game, frustrated

Dale Hughes - 6
Committed to the cause, likes to throw his weight about, loves a good tussle
Positive - Was unlucky not to be given a penalty and didn’t stop running at opponents
Negative - Surely with the 0% success rate as captain and the return of super jarrrad next week, this will be hollywoods last game as captain of Stanleytown fc. Also some of his challenges are as late as the Cardiff X8!

Bare 11 again for an away game is not the best of starts to a game and a lot more effort is needed by players if we are to survive relegation again this season as its not looking very good so far!

St Josephs 8 - 0 Stanleytown

This week Stanleytown travelled to St Josephs down Cardiff, once again with a bare 11 due to the late withdrawal of Nicky Rees. From the first whistle Stanleytown were always second best and quickly found themselves 3 - 0 down, due to some own goals and poor defending from the away team. Stanleytowns job wasn’t made any easier with the strong winds they were playing against. Stanleytown managed to keep the score down to 4-0 half time. The second half started bright for Stanleytown, getting more possession and creating. However this only lasted a few minutes and the score line was soon 5-0. There was soon a lot of tired Stanleytown legs out there and the score line started creeping up, 6-0, 7-0 and finally 8-0. A game to quickly erase from our memories and get on with the rest of the season. Things will need to improve all over the field if we are to avoid relegation again this year..

Ynyshir/Wattstown 2 - 2 Stanleytown
Matthew Symmons (pen)
Craig Williams

Today saw Stanleytown take a trip down the road to local side Ynyshir/Wattstown, and it was first game for new manager Goff. With new ideas and thoughts it was a much changed team from that of late and with probably the best turn out of the season it was a tough decision to name even 5 subs. The game started off well with decent chances from both sides. However it looked like Ynyshir that was going to get the break, when the Stanleytown keeper appeared to fumble the ball in to his own net, only for it to be disallowed for a push on the keeper. It was Stanleytown that did make the breakthrough when Matthew smith was blatantly pushed in the back in the opposition area, penalty given, which was tucked away nicely by Matthew Symmons, 1-0 Stanleytown. However Ynyshir did hit back before the half time whistle which left it 1-1 at the break. The second half started the same as the first with both teams playing some good football, but one again it was Stanleytown who went ahead again after a free kick outside the 18 yard box was rifled in by Craig Williams. 2-1 Stanleytown. Stanleytown fought valiantly to keep hold of this lead however it wasn’t to be after a shot from 25 yards from Ynyshir, spiralled through the air and Simon Leach could only parry the ball which unfortunatly fell to the Ynyshir striker who hit the back of the net relatively easy. Final score 2-2, probably a fair reflection of the game, but excellent effort from every player.

Stanleytown 0 - 2 Fairwater

Today Stanleytown welcomed fellow league strugglers Fairwater. With a few changes from last week, the team looked to build on last weeks draw. The game started brightly for Stanleytown with a few decent chances, most notably was a back post header from Dale Hughes and a 25 yard looping shot from Craig Williams. However it was Fairwater who got the first goal, when they hit Stanleytown on the break and with Stanleytown players backing off the approaching striker made it a little too easy for the striker to see it past the keeper and in the back of the net, 1-0 Fairwater. This is how the first half finished. After a rousing team talk from Goff the team came racing out of the blocks with lots of good chances but once again failing to make any of them count, best chance fell to Craig Williams who was strong enough to see off the defender and hit the ball across the keeper and smash the post (which I hear is still rattling now) It was again Fairwater who got the next goal after a free kick was crossed in the box and the shortest player on the field somehow got a head to the ball and put the ball in the back of the net, 2-0 Fairwater. The game then got a little scrappy and it did end Stanleytown 0 - 2 Fairwater.

Played through an injury for the team, you'd never tell he was injured with his performance!
Positive - His kicks can be a real asset, set up frog with one kick in the second half

Carl Semmens - 7
Had a decent game, put in a few good challenges and knocked some decent balls up field
Positive - See above
Negative - Forced off with a mystery injury

Huw Evans - 7
Moved to left back this week, equally as strong there
Positive - Calm on the ball, plays the ball out of the back
Negative - Running low on stock for the boys!

Matthew Smith - 7
Done well at the heart of the defence with his big brother
Positive - Done well to keep his cool when being wound up by opposition

Gareth Smith - 7
Same old boris, throwing himself in to tackles, winning headers
Positive - Moved up front late on with frog, done well
Negative - Test next week with the away game!

Dale Hughes - 7
Another fine display of how to break a guy in half from dale hughes, found the guys right leg down by the corner flag when the match had ended!
Positive - Tracked back, done his fair share of running
Negative - Had a really good chance in the first half with a backpost header which maybe should have done better with, also the only player in football leagues to receive more fines than Dennis wise and Roy Keane put together
Alex Thomas - 7
I might be wrong here, but his first start for the club? reports say daddy goodjob had a tear in his eye before kick off
Positive - Chased back and put in a few good challenges, great pace
Negative - OHHHHHH this could be good, firstly needs to stop running like a fairy on his toes so he wont get cramp, secondly spent 2 hours after the match straightening his hair, thirdly his pink boots have less grip on the bottom than my sandals, i'll keep the rest for next weeks or i'll run out

Lee Bolderson - 7 STAR MAN
Moved into the middle this week to sit back and pick up the pieces and start the attack
Positive - Knocked some lovely balls and got stuck in with some rated 18 tackles
Negative - For a holding midfielder he was everywhere
Negative negative - Steven Hobble makes an appearance back at the club more than Lee Bolderson these days and hobble hasn’t been seen there since the Merthyr riots!

Karl Williams - 7
Some quality pieces of play in the middle from Karl, like watching gautusso stroking the ball around in there
Positive - Showed great skill at times, great feet, never panics and always plays the ball out well
Negative - Took Shay home after the match because he was dirty, so the star afterward was pretty dull entertainment wise

Jarrad Davies - 7
Considering he was spewing before ko, done very well. usual work rate
Positive - always in amongst the nitty gritty, playing the ball out well. Loves the physical challenges
Negative - This one is easy.... the drunken ramblings on the way home from jez's the night before were top notch!

Craig Williams - 7
Moved back up front, as soon as he gets comfy in a position he is moved, did well tho
Positive - Strong as an ox to hold the ball up, when Goff said before the game 'aim for frogs chest' i thought to myself 'That aint f*****g hard, look at the size on it'
Negative - 9 times out of 10 would have put the keeper through the net with his shot in the second half

Ceri Pike - 7
First game for Ceri, when told to warm up he put a coat on, classic
Positive - Run some good angles and great on the ball
Negative - Looks about as up for it as the men down the erectile dysfunction clinic (so i hear)

Jason Pritchard - 6
Fresh legs on at left back, good player in his day apparently, looked good here, needs longer game time to prove it
Positive - Gets stuck right in and didn’t panic on the ball
Negative - Looks like Nikolay Davydenko

Nicky Rees - 6
Came on for carlos, thought he was having an easy game at right back, then realised Carl was playing right midfield
Positive - Seeing nickys face when he lost to carlos in poker friday night was probably the highlight of the weekend, done well when he came on tho
Negative - Seems happy on the bench these days. Also what was that dive all about at the end?

Nelson 0 - 0 Stanleytown

Stanleytown travelled to fellow strugglers Nelson this week for a bottom of the table clash which was a must win for both teams. With a few changed from last weeks starting line up it was clear Stanleytown set out to score goals with 2 strikers. It started off brightly for the town with a great chance when Carl Semmens broke down the wing and played the ball into the box and onto Craig Williams head, he could only find the crossbar. Stanleytown continued to dominate and another great chance when Matthew Symmons robbed the ball off the last defender and placed the ball in the bottom corner only for the keeper to somehow tip the ball round the post. With some dodgy referee decisions and some poor finishing from Stanleytown, Nelson somehow still found themselves in the game but with very little chances themselves. Half time 0-0. The second half kicked off with a more even outlook, both sides battling for possession but with few chances. Goff decided to make a few changes with Carl Semmens coming off for Ashley Davies and the injured Gareth Smith making way for the return of John Williams. There was very few clear cut chances in the second half. Best chance fell in the last 5 minutes to Matthew Symmons when he left the last defender for dead when the ball was played over the top, only to be called back for offside. This left the Stanleytown managerial staff baffled as he was still in his own half when the ball was played. Final score was 0-0. Not the best result and not the best turn out after the game with only 3 players showing up after the match. Still on a positive note things can only get better. Home against local rivals Llwynapia next week!.

Nicky Rees - 7
Little to do this week, but what he needed to do he did well. Tried starting the counter attack quickly and always alert

Matthew Smith - 6
Not the best game from Captain, low point was picking on a 72 year old ref. Starting to get some stick for the 'REEEEEF' shouts and rightly so

Huw Evans - 6
Lost possession way too many times trying to run through players. Lets hope he ups his game next week against his mates

Gareth Smith - 6
Did a lot of cleaning up at the back. +2 points - first away game since liverpool last won the league (many moons ago)

Jason Pritchard - 8 STAR MAN
Did not miss an header, was solid in the back. looks like an old head with experience, could be a vital part to Stanleytowns survival

Carl Semmens - 6
Frustrated, ran up and down the wing but had little ball played to him to provide anything

Lee Bolderson - 6
Showing some grit lately, not afraid to get stuck in. Touch was off par for his standards this week tho and played 1 or 2 loose balls

Jarrad Davies - 6
Strangely under par from former captain fantastic. Seems to have lost the super in super jarrad since the resignation of jeremy. Not his usual high fitness levels or Creativity in the middle.

Karl Williams - 7
One of the only players who tried to keep the ball on the deck instead of lumping it up to frog. Still one of the most important parts to the team

Matthew Symmons - 6
Was absolutely murdering the lanky defender in the first half hour....then seemed to die out. Maybe should have scored the 1 on 1

Craig Williams - 6
wasnt given the easiest of tasks with the ball being knocked up in the air to him while a 6 ft defender is marking him. Also maybe should have scored in the first half, the frog of yesteryear would have eaten it for breakfast

Ashley Davies - -3
Don’t know if he took one too many knocks to the head in his fight but went on the wing and struggled

John Williams - 6
Long awaited return to the club for little john, not the best of starts giving away possession in his own box but started growing into the game, will take a while to get back to the little john that would burst down the wing with the ball

Dale Hughes - Not used
Frustrated, talking to himself on the side, answering himself on the side. Unwanted.....kind of like a broke toy (hollywood i know your laughing now)

Stanleytown 1 - 1 Llwynypia
Matthew Symmons (pen)

This week Stanleytown welcomed local rivals Llwynypia, with every point precious at this stage it was all to play for.
With a change of formation from last week Stanleytown welcomed back local hero Tyrone Jones, starting with a 3-1-4-2 formation. The game started with both sides playing some decent football but with neither side getting any clear cut chances.

However the deadlock was broken when a Llwynypia midfielder was allowed to carry the ball and the stanleytown midfield backed off, the ball was crossed in to the box which wasn’t dealt with and the Llwynypia striker put the ball away, 1-0 llwynapia, this is how the first half ended.

After some discussions at half time the plan was to keep the ball on the floor and pass the ball around and thats exactly what they did. After putting on some pressure Stanleytown got the breakthrough when a great bit of skill in the opposition area by Tyrone Jones and cut the ball back to Karl Williams who was clearly tripped inside the area, penalty! which was slotted home calmly by Matthew Symmons, 1-1.

This seemed to spark Stanleytown in to life and they soon started to play some good football, piling pressure on to the opposition defence and soon had 2 very strong penalty claims waved away by the ref. Final score Stanleytown 1-1 Llwynapia. A well earned point for the club, away to Whitchurch next week, well done everyone

Had little to do in goals, which is to the credit of the defence in front of him which were solid. However again, what he had to do he did well. No chance with the goal from that range.

Matthew Smith - 8
Solid in the heart of the defence, captain chuckles. Led by example. Narrowly missing out on star man

Jason Pritchard - 8
Another solid display from Jason, forming a good partnership with Matthew in the back. Always communicating with his defence.

Huw Evans - 8
Playing against his buttys and had a stormer. played in back 3 and moved in to the holding mid field position and gave the opposition a torrid time

Matthew Symmons - 8
Given man of match by opposition, his runs caused Llwynapia all sorts or problems, great pace and cool head for the penalty

Lee Bolderson - 7
Played wing back, new position for Lee but done well, defended strongly and knocked some good balls in to the danger zone.

Gareth Smith - 7
Moved in to the holding midfielder position this week, did an excellent job until going off injured. Always snapping at the opponents heals and picking up the pieces

Karl Williams - 8 STAR MAN
Opponents struggled with karls skill from the word go. you will never see this guy give a wasteful ball. played some great through balls, battled in the middle of the field and kept possession

Jarrad Davies - 7
More the like the Jarrad of old, played like he had a point to prove and certainly proved it. Energetic, usual robust challenges, linking up play between defence and attack

Ceri Pike - 7
Beats players with ease and looks very skilful. Missed 1 or 2 good chances in the first half.

Tyrone Jones - 7
Quiet in phases but when he sparks to life he is unplayable. Skill to set up the penalty was superb

Carl Semmens - 6
Dropped this week, like a bad habit. Came on to play in back 3 then moved to the wing, done ok, won a few free kicks.

Jeremy Morgan - 6

Whitchurch 0 - 2 Stanleytown
Ceri Pike
Matthew Symmons

Today Stanleytown travelled to Whitchurch, and having played 21 league matches already, games were quickly running out for the ‘town and wins were needed sooner rather than later if they were to climb out of the bottom 3 of the league. A good turn out from the players once again, and with 16 to choose from, it was sure to be a tough selection for the Stanleytown gaffer.

One change from the hard fought draw against local rivals llwynapia last week. This saw Craig Williams return to the team to replace the injured Gareth Smith. A place on the bench for new signings Joe Eason and Martyn Evans.

The game started with Stanleytown flying out of the traps and playing some quality football for the first 10 minutes of the game. The only thing missing was the first goal. Whitchurch stemmed the wave of early pressure from their visitors and with one or two more generous offside calls, maybe would have seen them take a lead against the run of play. Never the less Stanleytown continued to press and settled back into the game and started to pile the pressure back onto Whitchurch.

On the half hour mark Matthew Symmons burst into the box and the Whitchurch defender could only hack him down, which resulted in a penalty. With the tank running close to empty already, Symmo didn’t hesitate in giving the penalty to Ceri Pike who stepped up looking to get his first goal for his new club. Unfortunately for him and Stanleytown, the keeper saved a rather poor penalty. This wasn’t to be the last of the chances for Ceri Pike, and by his standards, two golden opportunities were missed and confidence seemed to be low for the new striker. At this point it was looking as though it was going to be ‘one of those days’ and the teams went in 0-0 at half time.

Queue the encouraging half time team talk from Goff, the teams returned to the field and Stanleytown straight away got stuck into their opponents and started to play the kind of football that had made Whitchurch look dizzy in the first half. 55 minutes on the clock and a superb solo effort saw Ceri Pike volley the ball from the edge of the 18 yard box which nestled in the back of the net off the upright. He looked overjoyed with that one, and rightly so, great strike. 1 – 0 Stanleytown.

Known to invite pressure after taking a lead in the game, Stanleytown were eager not to repeat this and go searching for more goals. The next breakthrough came with some good defending which lead to a counter attack through Matthew Symmons who had found a second wind and beat numerous Whitchurch players before calmly slotting the ball past the keeper to make it 2 – 0 Stanleytown.

With some tired legs starting to appear, cramp had got the better of Lee Bolderson, and after a ear bashing off the skipper for lying down in his own area with play still going on, the first substitution came, Joe Eason replaced Bolderson to make his debut for the club. Shortly followed by a debut for Martyn Evans who came on to replace Ceri Pike.

Looking to get back into the game and fatigue creeping in to the Stanleytown players, Whitchurch started to create a few chances of their own, and it was a test for the Stanleytown defence. With a relatively quiet game so far for Nicky Rees in goal he was called into action with a high ball into the area which he got hands to, but under pressure he fumbled the ball and it fell nicely to the Whitchurch striker who got his shot away. Determined not to be beat and quick reactions saw Nicky save what looked to be a certain goal.

On came the final sub for Stanleytown, Matthew Symmons was replaced by Carl Semmens who got straight into the thick of things and with almost his first touch of the ball saw a long range effort go wide of the post.

Final score Whitchurch 0 – 2 Stanleytown. Great win for the team, which sees them climb out of the relegation zone. They look to build on this against Penrhiwfer on Tuesday night after the international break.

PLAYER RATINGS

Nicky Rees – 7
Yet again, had little to do between the sticks. Was called upon late in the game and looked like he’s been a keeper all his career with a fine save.
Positive: One of the Saturday night ‘tripod’ and in the running to take over as new social club president from his buddy Hobble. 2 clean sheets in 3 games.
Negative: Says he doesn’t really to want play and he wasn’t getting changed if simon was there saturday… Come on fred! We all know you still love it!

Huw Evans – 8
Smashed a ball at chuckles in the warm up to get him back for the crunching tackle he received in training. Known as Mr Consistent. Strong in the tackle and battled well to keep a clean sheet.
Positive: Forming a good partnership with the skipper and the tin man.
Negative: Mr Consistent moans moans moans at the referee. Needs to be more commanding in pushing the defence out.

Jason Pritchard – 7
Still hasn’t lost a header since his return to stanleytown. Experienced head at the back and likes to wind the opposition up.
Positive: Settled into the team quickly. He might not be the fastest these days but reads the game well.
Negative: Usually comfortable on the ball, misplaced and sliced a few clearances.

Matthew Smith – 8
Skipper of the team and seems to be relishing it. Puts his body on the line and gives the odd REF! shout to give people something to talk about after the game. Almost brings Nicky to tears every Saturday night by telling him that he wears his heart on his sleeve and he is Stanleytown through and through.
Positive: One of the Saturday night ‘Tripod.’ Organises the defence well.
Negative: Was told by the opposition he needs to ‘get on the weights’ was almost falling asleep on the night out.

Lee Bolderson - 7
Not his preferred position wide right, but gets on with it and does a good job for the team. Knows how to pick out a pass.
Positive: Always wants the ball and works hard to get up and down the pitch to support the attack and help the team defend.
Negative: Often finds himself out of position by getting drawn to the centre of the field.

Matthew Symmons – 9 STAR MAN
Frightens the life out of opposition teams with his pace and ball control. Puts a shift in every game and although he is only 2 stone soaking wet, he never shirks out of a tackle.
Positive: Kept his composure after beating 5 or 6 players for his goal. Confessed that he plays for the badge. (wipe them tears away Mr Rees)
Negative: Still needs to pick his head up quicker and find a pass to a team mate.

Craig Williams - 8
Asked to play in an unfamiliar role in midfield, and slotted in there with ease. Broke up the play, won headers, tackles, and passed an easy ball to get the Stanleytown attack moving.
Positive: Played box to box, full of energy and commitment.
Negative: Was meant to be a holding midfielder and often found himself the furthest player forward. Although he did have the energy to get back too.

Karl Williams – 8
Spread the play to both wings, composed as ever on the ball. Got to be knocking on the door of 40 now and seems to have the engine of a 20… well 30 year old.
Positive: Experienced player for us in the middle of the park, will pass the ball all day and never lose it.
Negative: Left shay in the house.

Jarrad Davies – 8
Seemed to be fed up a couple of games back. Don’t know why, he seems to be back to his best and will get the ‘super’ tag back in no time with these energy bursting performances.
Positive: Full of commitment loves a good old 50/50. Fitness is getting better every week.
Negative: Tries a sharp turn like Ronaldo… Turns like the Titanic.

Tyrone Jones – 8
Loves the ball to feet, got a first touch that Suarez would be proud of. Still getting used to playing with his strike partner pikey, but when it does click, opposition defences… be very afraid!
Positive: Tries a sharp turn like Ronaldo… Turns like Suarez. Works hard for the team, defends from the front.
Negative: Has done everything but score on his return to Stanleytown.

Ceri Pike – 8
Found space, beat the offside trap, and if he had slotted that penalty away would have easily have got a first half hat-trick. And Star man to go with it.
Positive: Chased everything down, tracked back, missed a couple of 1 on 1s but got in the right positions to get the chances. Took his goal superbly. A bit more composure in front of goals and this guy will get bags of goals under his belt.
Negative: lacked confidence in front of goal and let his head drop because of it… forgot about it in the second half and smashed a volley in.

Joe Eason – 7
Youngster came on for his debut and wasn’t afraid, got stuck in, confident on the ball. But shit out on a night to pentre with the lads.

Martyn Evans – 6
Another who came on for his debut. Struggled to get in to the game and maybe was trying little bit to hard in his first game. No doubt he will prove a good signing once he settles in with his new team mates.

Carl Semmens – 6
Didn’t have a lot of time to impress, but worked hard and fought to see the game through for the win.
Positive: Got an eye for goal, even if it is 40/50 yards out. Keeps training and working hard.
Negative: Rumours that he has played his last game for Stanleytown. Certainly hope not. Keep at it carlos!!

Dale Hughes – Unused sub
Negative: Still haven’t weighed in with his money for beindorm.

Alex Thomas – Unused Sub
Positive: Got his fingers wet on Saturday night.
Negative: Won’t be so lucky this Saturday as he jammed his fingers in the car do. His father reads the match reports.

One of the Saturday night ‘Tripod’ Early favourite in the running for the social club presidency.

Stanleytown 2 - 5 Penrhiwfer
Martyn Evans
Ceri Pike

Our first midweek game of 2011 saw us take on Penrhiwfer, our local rivals and co-habitants of Stanleytown Park.

With confidence high after last weeks impressive win Stanleytown were again looking for 3 points to take us further clear of the relegation zone. There were 3 changes from the win over Whitchurch with Nicky Rees voluntarily handing over his No.1 shirt to the returning Simon Leach, Joe Eason making his debut for Jarrad Davies and Martyn ‘Mervyn’ Evans coming in for Lee Bolderson. There was also a welcome return to the bench for Wayne ‘Full Pelt’ Davies who’s knee injury has lasted only slightly longer than the skippers ‘Refffffffffffff’ calls.

The game kicked off with Stanleytown trying to play the football that saw Whitchurch swept aside last week but the passing wasn’t as slick nor was the touch as tight and with a very fired up and hungry looking Penrhiwfer side hunting the ball down all over the field we were closed down well and forced into mistakes which gave the away side more of a lift. The game was a bit scrappy which played into Penrhiwfer’s hands although when Stanleytown did manage to find some space and get the ball down and play, they looked by far the more quality side and opened up the Penrhiwfer defence with ease. It took some Rugby Union style defending on the in-form and very dangerous Matthew Symmons down the left hand side to bring the Stanleytown attack to a halt, he did get free on one occasion though when he flew past a few defenders but the keeper came out with a brave save at Symmos feet.

The town weren’t finding enough space to play partly down to good Penrhiwfer pressure but mostly down to some casual touches and slack clearances which invited pressure onto the town defence although ‘town keeper Leach rarely had to make a save at the end of their attacks. Halfway through the first half a good save from the visiting keeper resulted in a corner for the town, the corner was swung in to the near post and Mervyn turned it into the net for his first Stanleytown goal in his first start for the club. 1 - 0 Stanleytown!! This goal spurred Penrhiwfer on and as per usual sent the town into their shells, the away side were playing some nice football and Stanleytowns failure to track runners and defend properly meant an equaliser was always on the cards . . . it came right on half time from a header 6 yards out. Poor defending from the home side and 1-1 at the break.

A half time talking to from Goff was surely the kick up the a**e that the boys needed and we started the 2nd half on the front foot playing some good stuff but the final ball was always lacking in quality. After soaking up a bit of Penrhiwfer pressure we hit them on the break, a great piece of Ceri Pike skill in nutmegging the defender and cooly slotting the ball in at the near post made it 2-1 to the town in the 58th minute and surely now the Penrhiwfer flood gates would open? . . . NOPE!! Back came the away side putting pressure on the town defence and 2 minutes after taking the lead we found ourselves level at 2-2 with a very dubious goal but although their striker was obviously offside to our defenders the Tin Man could have made it more clear to the ref by actually pushing out more quickly instead of sitting on the edge of our box. Frustration for the home fans, in particular Nicky Rees who was getting very animated on the side and asking Gaffa's opinion on things but to be honest I was more interested and swatting away the Gnats who were putting up a better fight than the town were now.

Stanleytown heads were down and the away side could smell blood (probably mine on the side after being done in by a few Gnats). In the 65th Minute a great touch on the edge of our box in bringing the ball under control then an unstoppable dipping, looping, curling shot into our top corner gave them the lead and to be honest it was a goal worthy of winning any game and exactly what we deserved. We were now there for the taking and that’s exactly what Penrhiwfer did in finishing us off in the 70th and 75th minute. A poor day at the office for Stanleytown.

Final Score: Stanleytown 2 - 5 Penrhiwfer

Negative - Not there often enough

Did ok at the back in fairness, won his headers and his fair share of tackles.
Positive - Consistent since being made Captain and getting his boots cleaned by Christine. Refffff calls have been cut down to 3 or 4 per game
Negative - There are still 3 or 4 Reffff calls per game.

Jason Pritchard - 5
Won his headers as you'd expect of him and still putting his boots on at 40+
Positive - Been mr consistent since Goff brought him back to the club, gives 110% every game
Negative - caught in possession a few times and labelled the Tin Man. . should have been oiled before kick off

Huw Evans - 7
Like the skipper, won his headers and tackles and been very consistent of late. Him and Chucks didnt get the protection they needed in a back 3.
Positive - No more talk of a transfer to Llwynypia or Ferndale or anywhere else for that matter . . Delme is back in love with the town
Negative - taking longer and longer in the shower, most of his time being spent washing his face due to his receding hairline. Middle name isnt the best

Craig Williams - 7
Screened the back 3 well, won headers and broke up the play but like the back 3 needed some help from the rest when runners were going past him.
Positive - Bought a house in Stanleytown with a birdseye view of the the hallowed turf. 0% body fat
Negative - Dont think he'll ever get the Mr Stanleytown tag off Nicky Rees

Joe Eason - 6
Played some nice through balls and put his foot in when he had to. The new boy wonder??
Positive - Likes the ball on the floor which can only be good for us, looks comfortable on the ball and always available to receive it
Negative - Didnt track runners as well as he might have. Little John told me he looks like Djimi Traore

Karl Williams - 6
Perfect touch as always and still loving his football at 40. Looks a different class when he has the ball at his feet
Positive - Never gives the ball away whether he's playing long or short passes
Negative - Bit of an off day when it came to tracking runners.

Tyrone Jones - 6
Asked to play out of position at wing back and did it well.
Positive - Something in the water in Stanleytown that keeps producing good footballers, Tyrone, Nicky . . . thats all i know but got to be more.
Negative - Left his man go free a few times but he was playing out of position.

Matthew Symmons - 7
Up and down all day, had their full back in knots at time.
Positive - Great engine, great skill and will put his foot in.
Negative - looks like he could fit into Shay Moles clothes

Ceri Pike - 7
Worked hard defending from the front. Defenders didnt know what to do with him at times.
Positive - Worked his socks off and scored a quality goal
Negative - Didnt get enough ball to his feet to rip their defenders apart.

Martyn Evans - 7
Won his share of headers as the target man and worked hard in closing their defenders down
Positive - Got a goal on his first start and worked hard for the team.
Negative - Ran out of puff. Not sure if he is a striker

Alex Thomas - 6
Came on for last half hour.
Positive - Plenty of running and bags of pace.
Negative - 2 words . . . pink boots

John Williams - 6
Nice little run out for John, would have been on earlier had Goff not thought he was Wayne.
Positive - Said Joe looks like Djimi Traore
Negative - Went on when the game was lost

Wayne Davies - 6
The run out was all about fitness and game time for our crocked star
Positive - Back in the squad and looks raring to go
Negative - Hope he hasnt lost that pace

Nicky Rees - UNUSED
Broken toy. Reminded me of Phil Thompson prowling up and down the touchline, barking out orders
Positive - Just loves the town, even when not playing. Gave up his starting position off his own back
Negative - Gave up his starting position

Gareth Smith - UNUSED
Broken toy. Made half of the match report up because i wasnt really watching.
Positive - Did the warm up and felt sharp. Even looked good having a kick about with Little John on the side
Negative - Cant have looked that sharp or good because i wasnt needed.

Stanleytown 1 - 6 Tongwynlais
Lee Bolderson

This week Stanleytown fc welcomed Tongwynlais to Stanleytown recreational for what was a must win for both teams. With another change of formation it was 442 this week. Straight from the kick off Stanleytown had a great chance when Ceri Pike found himself 1 on 1 with the keeper within the first minute of the game only to place the ball into the side netting. The first 20 minutes seemed a pretty even game with some decent battles and both sides creating chances. However Half hour into the game Tongwynlais took the lead through some sloppy defending and dodgy keeping, 1-0 Tongwynlais. This seemed to knock Stanleytown hard and from then on in it was a different game. Tongwynlais dominated the game and the goals soon started to clock up. Some injuries to Matthew Symmons and Simon Leach made it even harder to influence the game. 2-0 to tongwynlais when the half time whistle, much to the delight of the Stanleytown players. The second half Started pretty much started as the first one finished with Tongwynlais dominating, first to the ball, winning headers, winning tackles. Stanleytown looking like they had lost their hunger for the 3 points and just trying to keep the score down. This they didn’t do however and the score started creeping up again, even though a few of the goals were absolute screamers this shouldn’t hide the face that the performance was absolutely abysmal. Lee Bolderson did get a consolation goal late on and the final score was 6-1 Tongwynlais

Stanleytown 4 - 0 Nelson
Ceri Pike (3)
Tyrone Jones

Today Stanleytown welcomed fellow strugglers in what was another massive game for the clubs future. After saturdays game there was certainly a great improvement needed from saturdays performance if they were to pick up 3 vital points. And indeed this was the case, with Stanleytown playing some great football in patches, defended solidly and with just the final ball missing things were looking promising. The first goal came out of nowhere, with an individual piece of magic from Ceri Pike, when he spun off the defender with the ball outside the 18 yard box and hit a curling left foot shot first time leaving the keeper no chance, 1-0 Stanleytown. This was how the first half finished, with Stanleytown looking the better side. Second half started with Stanleytown getting to grips with the game and piling the pressure on Nelson. The pressure soon payed off with Stanleytown and Ceri Pike doubling their tallies when Ceri beat the offside trap and slotted the ball past the helpless keeper. 2-0 Stanleytown. They did not take the foot of the gas however and it was soon 3-0 to stanleytown and 3-0 to Ceri when a long throw from Carl Semmens Found Ceri Pike in the box and another fine piece of play from Ceri found him go past a defender and calmly slot the ball home from an angle. Confidence seemed to be coming back the team with some great play in patches and after a fine run from full back Hue Evans, he found himself too close to the opposition goal than he is comfortable with, he shot/passed the ball to Tyrone Jones who got his first goal since his return to the club. 4-0 Stanleytown. The game continued to go well for the town who defended solidly and never looked like conceding, and continued to create chances. The match ended 4-0 to Stanleytown and with confidence in the players a million miles away from saturdays nightmare. A much sterner test next with a trip down to rivals Ynyshir albions.

Ynyshir Albions 0 - 1 Stanleytown
Matthew Symmons

Tonight Stanleytown travelled down the road to face local rivals Ynyshir Albions in what was always going to be a high tempered game. With 2 changes from last weeks winning team due to absentees, Tom Lewis came in goal for Nicky Rees and Joe Eason started in centre midfield for Marc Daniels. With both teams needing 3 points for very different reasons it was sure to be a difficult game. The game started with Stanleytown getting the better of the chances with Tyrone Jones beating the helpless keeper only for the ball to bounce back off the bar. Both Sides continued to press for the first goal but only managed half chances, 0-0 half time seemed a fair result. The second half started the same as the first ended with both sides battling for the ball in the middle and no real chances to show for their efforts. Mid second half the ref awarded a free kick to Stanleytown only for the ref to be swore at by the Albion striker and was instantly dismissed. This seemed to spark outrage in the Albion ranks and bring Stanleytown back to life. The town soon started to press for all 3 points. The second talking point of the game was when an Albion player went down injured, the ball was played out to Matthew Symmons, who was oblivious to the incident, he misheard shouts to put the ball out, and even though both teams played on because of no whistle, Matthew took the ball round the full back and put it past the keeper. This again sparked outrage in the Albion ranks and 2 players were dismissed for threatening behaviour and abusive language. When all was settled down and with tempers at boiling point it wasn’t going to be long before the next talking point, and it soon came. There was a coming together of Carl Semmens and the Albions winger in the lower corner and when the Albions winger raised grabbed the Stanleytown full back round the throat there was only going to be 1 outcome; Albions had their 4th player sent off. However this sparked the end of the match on 71 mins as the ref called the game off after receiving threats from the Home fans and players. A brilliant performance from the team was overshadowed by silly behaviour. Keep this going lads!!

Stanleytown 3 - 3 Whitchurch
Matthew Symmon
Tyrone Jones
Craig Williams (pen)

Today Stanleytown welcomed Whitchurch fc to Stanleytown recreational, with a few changes from the midweek team due to absentees, Dale Hughes replaced Matthew Smith at centre half and Matthew Symmons started as part of a 3 man strike force. The match started badly for Stanleytown with players looking lethargic and were soon 1-0 down due to some poor defending. However with the pace Stanleytown had upfront they always looked dangerous and Whitchurch defence was struggling to say the least. And when Nicky Rees kicked the ball long downfield there was a mix up in communication between Whitchurch's keeper and defender, Matthew Symmons run in between the 2 and easily nodded the ball over the oncoming keeper, 1-1. This is how the first half finished. After a long chat about what needs to be done in the second half, almost instantly Stanleytown found themselves a goal down again due to some more poor defending. The afternoon suddenly started to look grim for Stanleytown when Whitchurch added a third. This time it was a mix up of communications between Stanleytown keeper Nicky Rees and defender Huw Evans. However Stanleytown refused to lay down and die and showed some fighting spirit which perhaps wouldn’t have happened a few months ago. And when Stanleytown made a tactical change putting Craig Williams upfront this seemed to change the outlook of the game. This change soon payed off when Stanleytown pulled one back through a neat finish from Tyrone Jones. From this point on Stanleytown threw everything at Whitchurch, and then a penalty was awarded in the dying minutes for handball, there was only one person taking that kick. Step up Craig Williams. Nerves of steel, and he slotted the ball home easily, 3-3. This is how the match soon finished. Good fighting spirit from the team and a well earned points, well done to everyone!

Stanleytown 2 - 2 Ynyshir/Wattstown
Huw Evans
Lee Bolderson

Tonight Stanleytown welcomed another local side, this time it was Ynyshir/Wattstown. With a few players missing from Saturdays draw with Whitchurch there was a few changes to the starting line up. The game started with Stanleytown once again conceding an early goal through a long distance free kick finding its way through the crowd of players. Things weren’t about to get any easier for the home side when they soon found themselves behind by 2, when they failed to clear the ball on a few occasions and the opposing winger was there to fire home from close range. 2-0 to Ynyshir/Wattstown within the first half hour, things weren’t looking good. The home side looked uninterested and were being outplayed and bullied. However Stanleytown did hit back before the half time whistle when Huw Evans played a nice 'give and go' on the edge of the 18 yard box and found himself within shooting range and put the ball in the far side of the goal. The score half time was Stanleytown 1-2 Ynyshir/Wattstown. The second half started in a completely different fashion to the first, with Stanleytown dominating and taking control of the game. With the home side now firmly on top it was not too long before they got their equaliser, when a long range shot was parried by the keeper, the oncoming Lee Bolderson was on hand to knock the ball into the net. With the game at 2-2, both teams were looking for the winning goal, however it never came and after a hard fought game the points were shared, final score Stanleytown 2-2 Ynyshir/Wattstown.

PLAYER RATINGS
.
Simon Leach - 6
First half - Couldn’t have done anything with the 2 goals
Second half - Involved in a mix up with chuckles, other than that was faultless

Dale Hughes - 6
Mr versatile, played in every position this season, what a guy! jack of all trades master of....... (you fill in the blank)
First half - Was playing through the pain and it showed, could hardly run. Also was sat down by a big striker!
Second half - Was getting back into the game, showing more and made some good passes before being subbed

Matthew Smith - 7
His return to the side following his weekend away to watch snooker in Sheffield, which he didn’t even watch
First half - Didn’t make a tackle, looked tired, too much booze in Sheffield?
Second half - Was awesome, opponent was a foot taller but didn’t lose an header or tackle, chuckles at his best

Craig Williams - 7
First half - Quiet from the crazy frog, not his usual high performance
Second half - Moved up top and once again, it changed the game. Which begs the question, is crazy frog really a centre half or a striker??

Huw Evans - 7
Got a rare goal, celebrated by running smack into the railings! Quality!
First half - Poor first half for delmut, bad touches, beaten by a kid no older than 13!
Second half - More like it from Huw, moved to centre half then wing back, plenty of running

Joe Eason - 8 STAR MAN
Never seen a player take such a kick in and get back up
First half - One of the only players that showed a bit of fight
Second half - Took control of the game in the second half, was running the show in the middle

Karl Williams - 6
Great engine for a veteran
First half - Was quiet, wasn’t his creative self
Second half - Started playing some good football before being subbed

Martyn King - 6
First half - Another who was sat down by the big striker, was quiet
Second half - Grew into the game and started bossing the middle of the park, could be a regular next season!

Lee Bolderson - 7
Quite quick considering the rear he’s dragging around
First half - Not the usual high levels of energy we have seen from lee in recent weeks
Second half - Different player, busy making his runs and plays some great balls

Tyrone Jones - 6
First Half - Not the Stanleytown hero’s finest hour, tired and quiet
Second half - The kind of player that can turn a game on its head in a second with his skill, showed it in phases

Ceri Pike - 6
First half - Another normal big player who was quiet. Frustrated
Second half - Plenty of his usual tricks, chased the ball down well, gets stuck in every time

Jeremy Morgan - 6
Came on for the injured Hollywood Hughes, made some good forward runs, showed for the ball. Marking is quite s**t tho

Marc Daniels - 6
Came on in the middle of the field, then moved back to defence, same old Danno, solid breaking up play, winning ball in the middle, alright for an old guy!
As it is Dannos last game would just like to say cheers for your efforts, although your a nasty bas... man, your a good guy and its been a blast! cheers Danno!

Alex Thomas - 6
Birthday boy came on, and run his little balls off, will get his chance next term for sure

Tom Lewis - Unused sub
Back down to third choice keeper after his clean sheet down Ynyshir, disgusting!

Stanleytown 0 - 1 Lisvane/Llanishen

Today was the final game of the season and Stanleytown welcomed league contenders Lisvane/Llanishen. With it now almost impossible for Stanleytown to make it out of the bottom 3 there was only pride left to play for. With a few changes again to the starting line up due to absentees it was a decent side fielded but was always going to be a hard game. The game started off well with both sides battling for possession but no score to show for their efforts. This is how the first half went till the half time whistle and 0-0 was a fair reflection of the game. The second half started with Lisvane/Llanishen starting to apply pressure to Stanleytown but with some solid defending from Stanleytown the visitors started to get a little frustrated. However the pressure eventually got too much for Stanleytown and when a cross from the visitors wasn’t dealt with properly, the ball fell to the opposing full back on the edge of the box and when he caught the ball with a sweet strike, Simon Leach was helpless to prevent the shot hitting the back of the net, 1-0 Lisvane/Llanishen. However this didn’t seem to dampen Stanleytown spirits and they continued to battle to the final whistle, but this is how the game finished, Stanleytown 0 - 1 Lisvane/Llanishen.

Positive - Led by example, tireless. had a long range effort late on that went close

Huw Evans - 7
Good game from delmut at left back, plenty of energy to help the attack, even late on
Positive - Had a few shandys back at the star
Negative - Ditched his team mates for our rivals

Joe Eason - 7
Not up to his usual high standards, one too many beers the night before so im told
Positive - Still put himself about and had a few tricks up his sleeve
Negative - Absolutely embarrassing attempt at the 6 halves along with his bessie squirt. They have invented their own game, 6 halves in 3 hours!

Martyn Evans - 7
Set to man mark a tricky opponent and done the job well, didn’t see much of the opponent after that
Positive - Seems to like a good duel
Negative - The Vest tan was back with vengeance, shocking!

Karl Williams - 7
Hard to write about Mole as you get the same off him every week, great in possession, got stuck in!
Positive - His 6 halves record is not under any threat anytime soon
Negative - Still hasn’t brought along little Sadie!? Honestly lads she’s equal to Shay for entertainment!

Lee Bolderson - 7
Same energy from scab, up and down all game, links the midfield to the strikers well
Positive - Lee made it back to the star and even had a few pints!!
Negative - Got a shot or 2 for his troubles

Dale Hughes - Football performance - 7,
Quizmaster performance - scraping a 1
Played through the pain for the club he loves
Positive - Mr versatile in another position, willing to play anywhere to get on the team sheet
Negative - Fitness is poor
NOW.......the quiz....hat off to him, the preparation was good, some good questions, even went to the trouble of a picture round. BUT Quizmaster you AINT hollywood. Example 1, he gets to question 8 and says 'oh hang on ive missed a question', example 2 he finished the quiz on question 30 when teams were still on question 19/20. effort 10/10 tho hughesy! ;)

Tyrone Jones - 7
Was a lone striker most of the game, which isn’t easy. Started playing touches which was the Tyrone of yesteryear, will be an important player next year if he stays at the club
Positive - Came back for a quick tango. Confidence growing with every game Negative - Its the last game, hope he will be here next term!

John Williams - 6
7th return this season for little john after his extended winter break

Came on in the back and was solid. Was winning headers everywhere
Positive - Dusted off his boots at short notice to make up numbers, good effort
Negative - Another who doesn’t like socialising with the team

Gareth Hurton - 6
came on upfront late on as a sort of target man, help the ball up well to be fair
Positive - Was willing to get out there and give it a go, also organised things back at the star well
Negative - Missed a header that would have made him an instant idol at the club. Also was more like wan... than banker in the game of deal or no deal back at the club, Noel Edmonds wont be knocking your door any time soon Goff!

Gary Thomas - Unused sub, fair play to goodjob, put himself forward again
Tom Lewis - Unused sub, Not getting a look in these days, doesn’t seem to mind tho

Cant fault the effort today on the last game of what has been a difficult season for the club, but i have every confidence that if the club stays up then we can build on the good form shown in he last few weeks and propel ourselves right up the table next season, well done lads, keep at it!!
