We started the season facing all 3 of the newly promoted sides, first we were away v Penygraig BC where a solid
performance saw us pick up 3 points and a clean sheet in a 2 - 0 win to start the season. Our second game was also away as we conceded a late goal to lose 1 - 0 to Porth Harlequins in what was only
one of two games were we failed to find the target this season. The first home game was against many people's favourites for the league Treherbert BC, a couple of dubious decisions in the first half
and an early goal in the second saw us trail 4 - 0 but a spirited final 30 minutes saw us claw 3 goals back and we were unfortunate not to come away with a point in the end.
The next two home games were against familiar opposition in games that have been closely contested in previous seasons and these were to be no different with late drama in both, firstly we hosted Penyrenglyn in a another game were we found ourselves trailing at half time but again a strong second half performance saw us come back to 2 - 2 before a late goal from the visitors saw us go down 2 - 3. We then welcomed Penygraig Utd and again we were 2 goals behind at the break but 2 unanswered goals in the second half, the 2nd coming deep into injury time, saw us rescue a point in a 3 - 3 draw, this would be one of the only two games where Penygraig failed to pick up all 3 points this season.
The second win of the season came in our 6th game as we were on the road against Treorchy in one of the few games this season where we had a bare 11, despite this it was still a strong 11 that took to the field and a battling performance saw us come away with a 1 - 0 victory. We ended the opening 2 months of the season with a home game v Cwm Rhondda and a good start saw us take a 3 - 0 lead but then a disastrous 60 minute spell saw us conceded 5 goals to lose the game 4 - 5.
The last league game before the cup break was away to Treherbert who were leading the table, in similar fashion to the first game against them we found ourselves trailing by 3 goals at the break but another positive second half performance saw us come to within a goal of a point as it ended 3 - 2.
After 8 games in 8 weeks the next 12 weeks saw us play just the 5 games to take us to the end of 2018, 4 of which were cup matches, 2 in the Senior Cup and 2 Lucania cup. The first Senior Cup match was away to fellow Rhondda League side The Baglan were we came away with a narrow 2 - 1 victory. The only league game in the 12 week period was away to Penyrenglyn who after a good start sat near the top of the table, this was one of our better performances of the season as we battled hard and dug deep at times to come away with a deserved 3 - 1 victory. The final 3 games of the year were all cup matches, Cwm Rhondda were first up as we started the defence of the Lucania Cup but it was looking to be a short one as we were 2 goals behind and it took extra time for us to eventually come out 4 - 2 winners. Our Senior Cup run then came to an end as we hosted South Wales Alliance Premier League side Garw in what was an end to end game with the visitors coming away with a 4 - 2 victory.
With a bad spell of weather it was almost a month passing before our next game which was the quarter final if the Lucania Cup against Treherbert and after it being postponed numerous times it was switched to their 3G pitch, despite the pitch being ok the weather certainly wasn't, with heavy rain and strong winds throughout which made for a very tough and competitive game which saw us come away 1 - 0 winners with a goal in the final 15 minutes to send us into the Semi Final for the 2nd year running.
We started 2019 in good form winning all of our 3 first away games scoring 10 goals along the way, first of which was a 5 - 1 victory over The Baglan before a hard fought derby against Ferndale saw us come away with a 3 - 1 win. We completed the hat-trick of wins with a narrow win over Cwm Rhondda with a goal inside the last 15 minutes making it 2 - 1. January ended with what was on a paper a heavy defeat but not one our performance deserved as we went down 4 - 1 to Porth Harlequins in what was only our second defeat in 9 games.
February started with the Lucania Cup Semi Final where due to the weather it was switched to Cambrian's 3G as we played Penygraig Utd, a competitive first half saw the scores level at the break before 25 minutes from time our Lucania Cup run came to an end as Penygraig went 2 - 1 up and put them into the final. Our other game in the month saw us face Penygraig BC at home and we were able to quickly put the disappointment of the cup exit behind us as we registered a 6 - 0 win in a dominant display.
Our final 4 games of the season were spread over a 2 month period and saw us register 2 wins with 2 defeats. We started against The Baglan at home in what was probably our worst performance of the season and a 2 - 4 loss was nothing more than what we deserved. Our remaining home games saw us firstly host Treorchy which saw us come from 3 - 1 down in the final 10 minutes to go on a win 4 - 3 before the second derby of the season saw us register one of the biggest victories in the club's history as we beat Ferndale 11 - 1. The final game of the season was a midweek fixture against Penygraig Utd who were on their way to the league title but needed a result against us and unlike previous games between the sides this was a one sided result as we went down 5 - 0.
We finish the season 4th in the table in what is one of our highest league positions for quite some time and saw us win half our league games something not done since the 2008/09 season. There is plenty of positives to take from the year but also need to learn from some of our poor performances and results in readiness for next season and turn some of the narrow defeats into points on the board if we want to be challenging at the top of the table and with the squad we have there is no reason why this shouldn't be the main goal next season
