Max United 1 - 0 Stanleytown

Our season started with the short trip over the mountain to newly promoted Max United, and after a good pre-season and a strong squad available confidence was high.

However the game didn't start as expected with passes going astray and struggling to break through the Max defence. The Max did cause us some problems early on with a series of corners which brought about a couple of good saves from new keeper Daniel Hurton. Our best chance of the half came in the 35th minute when some good build up play by our midfield trio of Joe Eason, Barrie Jones and Jarrad Davies got the ball through to Tyrone Jones only for him to be denied by the max keeper. Half time 0 - 0

The second half followed the same pattern as the first with neither side managing to get a grip of the game with the play flowing from end to end but with neither keeper being tested. The Max took the lead in the 65th minute when a ball through the middle caught our defence square and the striker was one on one with Daniel and slotted the ball past him giving him no chance. This did seem to lift us slightly and we started taking the game to the Max but struggled to break down their stubborn defence. We made three changes with Liam Derrick replacing the injured Tyrone, Jarrad also picked up a knock and was replaced by Ryan Jones and Dale Hughes replaced Liam Hemming. We continued to push in the final minutes but were restricted to long shots that failed to trouble the Max keeper. Final score 1 - 0.

Even though this was not the start we hoped for there is still plenty of time left in the season starting with another local derby on Tuesday night against Penrhiwfer, kick off 6.15pm
